Tony Ciafardini, PHD, LPC, the weekend CTL for Connect recently organized a “Squishmallow” drive from our local Hallmark Store. Tony collected 76 donated Squishmallows that were in turn donated to the Child and Adolescent inpatient unit in the Department of Mental Health. Thank you, Tony!

We are thrilled to announce that Sarah "Essie" Bridges, our Ultrasound CTL, has been honored with this quarter's Radiology Vision Award for her exceptional dedication and innovative contribution. Essie was recognized for her diligent efforts to accommodate a patient's request for a weighted blanket to alleviate their anxiety during an Ultrasound procedure. Despite not having weighted blankets available, Essie resourcefully used a lead apron to provide comfort.

Ivie Will is one of our Mohs Surgical nurses with Carilion Dermatology. Last month, while on vacation with her family, a fellow beach goer experienced an emergency when a drone he was using lost control and crashed into him, causing significant damage and severing arteries in both his upper and lower extremities. Ivie jumped into action, helped slow and stop the bleeding with makeshift tourniquets and direct pressure, delaying hemorrhagic shock. The young man reached back out to Ivie to express his gratitude and let her know that he was on the road to recovery.

The FCM Central Support Team took nonperishable food items and children's toys to God's Storehouse in Galax, VA on our Team's quarterly community event. God's Storehouse is making a huge impact on their local community by offering food, shelter, and love to the people who need it most.

Officer Fink was great with our psych patient. He was very compassionate, and you could tell her really cared about the patient and his situation. He could tell this patient really needed psychiatric help quickly and chose to ECO the patient. He was quick to act and kept the situation calm the entire time. I’m so thankful he was on today and responded to our security need. Thank you for all you do Officer Fink!

Thank you for an awesome 15 years, we will miss you! 

As a patient was leaving, my wonderful co-worker Olivia Peterson, helped direct her to checkout. Additionally, it was pouring rain, and the patient was unable to get to her car. Olivia helped this patient get to her car safely, while raining. The patient was grateful, and Olivia does a wonderful job. Thank you for being awesome!

The Carilion Mission is to improve the health of all the communities that we serve. In keeping with this mission, the Ortho Activities Committee (OAC) partnered with The Least of These Ministry (TLOT) to provide and serve lunch to the homeless community this month. 

I'm so proud of my co-worker, Pam Lewis for receiving the Bee Award for the CTCH Imaging department. Pam was awarded this honor for her compassion to a patient who was going through a rough time health wise. Pam is an ovarian cancer survivor and was able to share her experience with this patient. This comforted the patient during a very stressful time. This is how God turns " Rain into Rainbows". Sometimes our own battles can come back to help others during theirs. We love you Pam, and GREAT JOB!
