CSJH Staff Ensures That Two Patients Are Able To Vote Today

Submitted by fmwaddell on

I just wanted to give a quick shout-out to the entire staff at CSJH along with Carmen Bradford, RN and Holly Ostby (Community Development Coordinator) for doing an admirable job in making sure that two patients were able to vote in the Election today.  Carmen worked as a patient advocate in passing along this information and Holly went above and beyond to make sure that two emergency absentee ballots were approved, obtained, and returned for both of these patients.  Voting is important and this is just one example of the compassion and care that is being provided at CSJH.  Gr

The Miracle Worker

Tangela Francis, MSW  learned that one of our ICU patients did not have any family or anyone to list as an emergency contact so she stepped into the role so he wouldn't feel alone. She came to visit him after his surgery to show that he had someone that cared.  She also has ensured that he will be able to get home successfully when he is discharged.  He now calls her 'The Miracle Worker'.  Thank you Tangela for always showing an incredible amount of compassion to our patients and their families. You are amazing!

Suzanne Bowser manager of MCPCU, went out of her way after leaving work late. She went an hour out of her way to deliver a cpap machine that a patient forgot at discharge. They were unable to come back to the hospital for it.The patient and family were very grateful. She went above and beyond her responsibilities. Her staff on 7south are appreciative her as their manager!

Compassion creates safety!

Corbin Martin RN in the emergency room was recently confronted with a juvenile patient in crisis who was using strong profanity towards Corbin and Carilion Police officers. Corbin was tasked with the patient's care and had to endure extreme verbal abuse by the patient. Corbin was able to deflect all the slurs and eventually was able to build rapport with the patient and calm the patient down so that care could be provided. Corbin's actions have not gone unnoticed as I have witnessed him deal with some very difficult patients and he does an excellent job communicating with our patients.

Amber Spencer was near the pharmacy when she overheard a patient had unreliable transportation and no at home blood pressure monitor to check his blood pressure control. She immediately offered an extra monitor she had to the patient. She offered to ship it directly to the patient and no cost to them. This will go so far to help this patient's condition safely improve, and monitor starting his new medications. Thank you Amber for not hesitating with your generosity for this patient in need!
