Excellent Customer Service

Shoutout to Shannon in Billing/Customer Service. I have been working on a billing issue for myself and my family for the past month, without resolve. Today I spoke with Shannon who was apologetic (even when this issue was not her fault) and was able to fix the problem quickly. Billing is a difficult area to work in, but having experienced the confusing patient side of things it is nice to know we have someone like Shannon available.

Codi Jo Thomas, RN works on MCU was our Daisy award winner for September and October. She shows compassion and commitment to all her patients. She was nominated by two patients, below are their comments:

#1 Patient family member: I was spending the night with my mother Cota Wade after she had surgery. I had been awake since 3:15 that morning I was really tired, Codi Jo brought in a recliner for me to rest and warm blankets. No one knows how good it feels for someone to show kindness, compassion, and care in time of need, she’s the best.

I called 5 West for a patient of mine in need of a shower.  This lady had not been able to shower in a few days to due her circumstances.  I was working on 5 East TCU and we do not have a shower on our small unit.  I wanting to know if 5 West had a shower room or a room that we (TCU staff) could use to bath our patient.  Then, Lily Andrews a nursing assistant answered the phone.  I explained the situation to Lily and she promptly said that she would bring a shower chair over and pick up my patient then bathe her.  I couldn't thank Lily enough for the generosity

One cold night....

Submitted by smparsons on

It was a very cold day, and an even colder night. I had called for a police escort like I always do. The air in my tires were low and being new at owning a car, I didn't know what to do. When I said something to the night guard, he offered to put air in my tires and proceded to take care of my tires. He spent a solid 45 minutes pumping my tires to the right pressure and made sure I got out of the parking lot safe. It's nice to know that there will always be help, all you have to do is ask. I am very thankful for the kindness all the night guard staff have shown me.

A Special Part of the 9MPCU Team

There is a long-term patient on 9 Mountain PCU that the staff have officially adopted as a part of their team.  The staff have brought in clothes for him, made him a name tag, helped trim his hair, bring him food and snacks, and even bought him a new watch when his broke.  Despite his disabilities they treat him as a friend and show him overwhelming compassion.  Yesterday, when I was rounding he was wearing one of the unit specific t-shirts and he told me that he has to "watch out for them, like they watch out for him."  I am thankful and proud of every person on the uni

Outstanding Customer Service!

I was so impressed by the outstanding customer service by clinical transporter Hunter Plunkett today! As he arrived to the unit to transport my patient to MRI, he overheard my patient requesting a hairbrush to help de-tangle his hair. When Hunter returned my patient from MRI, he had gone to the gift shop and purchased my patient a hairbrush. This is a wonderful example of exceptional patient care and compassion. Great job Hunter, you went above and beyond today!

Helping out a Mom in Need

Jen Prince (Child Outpatient Psychiatry) took time out of her job duties to help a mom with her hands full. The patient had a mental disability and would not get back in the stroller that mom had. Mom was trying to carry this patient and handle the stroller at the same time. Jen showed Compassion and carried the stroller to the car for the patient's mother. Jen is a great example of stepping up and helping to make the patient experience better.

One morning as I was coming into work, I observed this act of kindness by Jessica. There was an elderly gentleman in front of the Medical Office Building confused and not sure where to go for his appointment.  Jessica laid all of her things she was carrying down and got out her cell phone to assist the man to find his location.  She was fully engaged in helping this man find out where he needed to be before she even got to work!
