As an employee of Carilion Clinic Cardiology, I wanted to take this opportunity to give a WOW to Officer Paul King

Being stuck on the side of the highway , broke down, is not fun! It's even worse when your husband has a major surgery scheduled at Carilion NRV .Our car decided to take a nap (LOL) at Exit 109, 10 minutes before our check in time and refused to wake up !

Big shout out to Brian RN on 10 South Oncology unit. Had the pleasure to sit with a patient two nights in a row and work with Brian as our nurse both nights.  His interactions with our patient, making time to connect with him through light banter even though he was extremely busy was a delight to see.

Outstanding compassion for a patient

I wanted to give a special shout out and thank you to the staff of 9M PCU as well as Graham Daniel's and Amanda with CPTS transport. A patient was being discharged who was very anxious and began escalating at the thought of leaving. The staff of 9M PCU rallied together and were able to de-escalate the patient and avoid what could have quickly turned into a traumatic situation for the patient. Graham and Amanda were so patient, recognized the patient's triggers and were able to calm the patient and make the patient feel comfortable enough to ride with them to his new home.

I am a member of the truly amazing System Orientation Team with Education and Organizational Development!  This past Monday at new hire System Orientation, one of our participants spilled coffee all over her white blouse. She was mortified! It was her first day and she wanted to make a good impression. Facilitator, Misty Amos burst into action! Misty attempted to "save" the shirt with wet wipes but to no avail. Misty then offered to launder the participant's blouse for her. She then spoke with a representative from the hotel about a temporary replacement shirt while she waited.

I have to give a big thank you to our laundry staff.  A patient had a quilt that went missing and both the patient and granddaughter devastated.  The granddaughter made this special heirloom for her grandmother.  The granddaughter put many hours into this quilt and she brought it to the hospital while her grandmother was recouping and to bring her a little comfort from home.  It isn’t a large quilt so it got mixed up with the patient’s linen.  I made one phone call and the search began.  Today I received a call the quilt had been found and cle

Showing compassion

While I was taking a patient to the morgue I  noticed Andy Wingfield with EVS  . What stood out to me is he took the time to take his hat off and show respect as we wheeled past him. This was for sure showing compassion and I appreciate him taking the time out of his busy schedule to show respect. Thanks for all you do.
