Michelle McDaniel, RT(R)(CT) performed a CT study on a blind patient on July 12th. The patient called me to express how impressed he was with Michelle's care. He said she was amazing, nice, warm, friendly and all around wonderful. This patient explained that it is easy for the blind to feel claustrophobic when on an unfamiliar surface that moves. He further stated that not only did Michelle allay his fears entirely, he was so impressed that he would always come to Franklin Memorial for his CT studies. In the heat of the day, Jay Johnson was spotted outside of the CRCH parking garage assisting a 93 year old woman struggling with car troubles. Without hesitation, Jay moved the stranger's car to safety and began to change her flat tire. The woman offered to graciously compensate Jay, however due to his selfless act of kindness, he politely declined. Way to go Jay!!

I just wanted to take a minute to compliment on Dreama Schooler for a minute. Last Friday, I had to go to RMH ED and I was in so much pain with my gallbladder. I'm the type of person you have to drag me to the doctor so when I went to the ED it was urgent. Dreama was an absolute angel. She was so attentive and kind. She is just a one of a kind. The kind that you don't meet everyday. She didn't make me feel like I was bothering her or was wasting her time. She was so sweet, compassionate, caring and comforting.
During a very busy clinic day, we had a family arrive for their appointment a couple of hours early during lunch time. The hectic schedule made it impossible to see the child before their scheduled appointment time. The family knew they were early and came prepared to wait for a bit. They were pointed in the direction of the cafeteria just in case they would like to get something to eat while they wait since they traveled a distance to get here. The family didn't have any money and politely declined.
WHILE WORKING AT THE GIFT SHOP THIS WEEKEND I WITNESSED COMPASSION AND GENEROSITY AT IT'S FINEST! A GUEST THAT HAD TRAVELED HERE FROM WEST VIRGINIA HAD A LOVED ONE IN OUR HOSPITAL. HE ASKED THE PRICES OF OUR BALLOONS, AFTERWARDS HE LOOKED AROUND BUT DIDN'T HEAD STRAIGHT FOR THE BALLOONS. A PHYSICIANS ASSISTANT (ROBERT LUCAS) OVERHEARD THIS AND TOLD THE GUEST TO PICK OUT WHATEVER BALLOONS (AS IN PLURAL) THAT HE WANTED AND THAT HE WOULD PURCHASE THEM FOR HIM.
Linda Naff LPN, Care Coordinator CCMH Roanoke, showed great compassion for one of her patients as she worked to help them through a tough time. Her patient loved to travel and be on the water, but due to illness and finances had not been able to do this for some time. Linda knew that this was important for her patients healing and happiness so she gave them information and helped them set up a cruise at Smith Mountain Lake with the Virginia Dare Cruise and Marina.
