Hi everyone,

I know how hard many of you are working right now. Our community knows it, too.

David Stewart Wiley, the music director and conductor of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, recently shared with me a splendid two-minute performance of the theme from the movie "Rudy," written by award-winning composer Jerry Goldsmith. It features Wiley on piano and Julee Hickcox on flute. David asked me to share it with you and as a reminder of how deeply grateful the community is for the work you are doing fighting the coronavirus pandemic.

Overall the shift was very busy in my department that night. I was personally having a bad day overall. Got a page to do an EKG on a patient in Labor and Delivery, so I went to 11W to obtain a EKG machine. This is where I got to meet Ms. Tabatha. I had no clue where the machine was located on the floor and Ms. Tabatha took the time out of her night to help me find it. This gesture went beyond just helping me out. She was polite, nice, caring which was quite refreshing for a change. She had no hesitation whatsoever to jump in and help.

A huge shout out to the 3rd floor staff at Riverside 3 (Patient Access and Clinical). Please see below compliment from one of our patients. Thanks for all you do and the continued dedication! You are appreciated.

Hello,

The Palliative staff on 10 South had the opportunity to care for a patient and her family for several days.  The patient ended up passing away while hospitalized on the Palliative unit.  The patient's family expressed the utmost gratitude towards the staff for the care that they and their loved once received.  The son of the patient was so moved by a poem that is printed in our "Letting Go" brochure, that on the day after his mother's death, he brought to the unit a beautiful picture of a ship at sea.  He told the staff that after receiving the care and reading the poem,

I want to recognize Dr Hullet for his outstanding care that he delivered not only at my visit, but with the personal follow up call to review tests and follow up. It is rare for a physician to take the time to reach out the a patient personally and was much appreciated. Thank you Dr Hullett for going the extra step with me and your patients. You make a difference! This is exactly the type of care that Floyd needs.

I don't know who the team was that worked on my dad last week but I want to reach out and say THANK YOU from the entire family.  Dad went in with a 6.7 mm AAA.  From what I understand when they cut him open the aneurysm has already burst and healed back to his intestines.  He's a very lucky man and God was watching over him along with the amazing team that treated him.  He's doing well and recovering at home.  

Again, thank you to his team and all the amazing and compassionate people at Carilion.

Kudos to the compassionate team at Pediatric Dental! Jac, Taylor & Dr. Miller are phenomenal!!!!

I have never been to an office where I felt so much compassion from each and every person that I came in contact with, like I did at Carilion Breast Center Highland.  I want to give a shout out to Lynda M. Hart, Stephanie Love, Rebecca Green, Catherine Hagan and Dr. Ashley Tuttle for taking the extra time to spend with your patients and doing more than is expected.  All of you made the experience so much easier for me and I am sure you do for so many others.  Thank you so much for your great work!

I would like to thank Kelly Thomas CCR3, 2nd floor, for always having fresh coffee waiting for staff in the morning. Our machine broke so she goes the extra effort to head to another floor to make coffee and bring it back down to us, everyday. Thank you Kelly!!
