Palliative Staff on 10 South at CRMH receive blessings upon blessings!

The Palliative staff on 10 South had the opportunity to care for a patient and her family for several days.  The patient ended up passing away while hospitalized on the Palliative unit.  The patient's family expressed the utmost gratitude towards the staff for the care that they and their loved once received.  The son of the patient was so moved by a poem that is printed in our "Letting Go" brochure, that on the day after his mother's death, he brought to the unit a beautiful picture of a ship at sea.  He told the staff that after receiving the care and reading the poem, he had painted his mother's name on the ship and wanted to donate the painting to the unit for display.  Several weeks later an appreciation card was received by this family that spoke of the nursing staff in Palliative as being "angels on earth".  Soon after the card arrived, three enormous baskets of goodies were delivered to the staff in appreciation for the care received by this same family.  As nursing director of this unit for the last 6 years, I can say first hand, that the staff who work in Palliative are simply the very best.  They treat their patients and families as if they were their very own.  It is a call to answer if one chooses to work in the medical profession.  However, to work in the Palliative department, not only is it a call to answer, but one to accept as a great privilege.
