I wanted to thank everyone who was involved in setting up, tearing down, preparing the food, and serving the food for our CASB Summer Picnic yesterday. 

The food was wonderful! It was so nice to take a short break from our busy world in Revenue Cycle and see some familiar faces and get together with people from other areas and "catch up".

Thank you to everyone who had a hand in this special event! It was appreciated more than you know!

I was in a contact isolation room and in need of supplies. No one was in sight, except for Laura. Laura was in the hallway and ready to save the day. She went and got supplies from the supply closet for me. She helped me in a pinch, and she did it with a smile. Going above and beyond her job description. Thanks Laura!

Over the last few years, we have seen an increase in the use of traveling staff at Carilion.  David identified a challenge in Kronos where on-call hours were not being recorded as expected for travelers in his area.  He inquired about it and worked closely with TSG to discover that this was in fact a problem for many areas.  Nearly a year later, the problem has been fixed in Kronos.  David's persistence and collaboration with TSG demonstrates that one person can make a big difference.  Thank you, David!

Family Practice North Main Blacksburg has been working short staffed. They pulled together to help each other as well as their patients in a way in which true teamwork happens. Both the clinicians and staff are working with grace, smiles and patience. Thank you for the professional and caring attitudes in the midst of short staffing. This is truly a Carilion Strong group!

SEFM took time out for "wear green day" by wearing green, displaying stickers, and wearing green ribbons in May in efforts to help reduce stigma and raise awareness in supporting mental health and well -being.

Thursday, May 11, 2023, marked the culmination of a 12-month pediatric palliative care (PPC) educational initiative that brought together a diverse and collaborative group of pediatric care providers from across the system.  The group (which included the pediatric, palliative, and hospice departments) launched the program in May 2022 with an on-site training course followed by quarterly virtual sessions.  This educational initiative was underwritten by HR Training and Development and featured nationally recognized experts in PPC from Children’s Nation

I would like to recognize Summer Clemmer for her collaboration and commitment to CRBH. Recently I had the task of working with a team to create a performance improvement plan for improving patient reassessment scores for the inpatient departments at CRBH.

Phone RN, Holly Peery, received a call about a patient needing to follow-up with their PCP, Dr. Henchel, after an MVC that significantly impacted the patient's health and normal life. Holly made the appointment and notified the PCP, notified the CTL that the patient would be arriving by ambulance in order to plan accordingly, and provided rehab information to a Gen Peds HAA in order to request records. Because Dr. Henchel will be leaving Carilion in just a few short months, she looked ahead to Dr.

Staff at CNRV held an event last night to host our local volunteer Fire Department. Dinner was provided as a small thank you to the many times they respond to our facility and help. Thanks to the following departments for providing education about our facility to the FD:

Engineering and Maintenance 

Administration 

The nightshift respiratory team truly is dedicated to collaboration with nursing and patient safety! Thank you to Josh Goff, RT for providing education on ventilators, extubation, and vent troubleshooting. As an RN new to ICU, I appreciate the help in learning new equipment and protocols. Thanks!
