I would like to recognize Octavia Hairston, MA and Trina Alachnowicz, Surgery Scheduler for their excellent patient care and collaboration this week. Octavia was faced with a difficult patient care situation and handled it like a pro, with compassion and kindness. By the end of the interaction, the patient was smiling. Trina had a patient call with a medical question and made sure that the nurse was aware and called the patient back, ensuring timely and effective care & communication. Without her help, the outcome could have been less than favorable.
Two of our own Carilion executive coaches, Sara Kagarise and Cory Colton, have received notice their article "The Strength of Two: The Dyad Partnership and Coaching" has been accepted for publication in the upcoming "Humanizing Healthcare" edition of choice magazine. Sara is a Senior Coach and Consultant and Cory is the Senior Director with the Institute for Leadership Effectiveness (ILE). Their unique perspective and exceptional writing style stood out among numerous submissions. Choice is the magazine of professional coaching.
Kudos to Steven Herndon RN of the Transfer Center! Steven has worked diligently with the 4S PACU and many other RMH inpatient units to ensure throughput for OR Services when assigned to the Surgical Pod at the Transfer Center. Not only is Steven great at his job, but he his sense of humor helps ease the tension on challenging days. 😊 He’s extremely responsive, friendly, and funny. He is honest and open about the current bed situation so we can plan accordingly. We appreciate his thorough explanations, guidance and we also enjoy his great math skills.
A huge shout out to 10 South Oncology Team for assisting 4 South PACU, OR Services, and the Transfer Center. We appreciate the 10 South staff for collaborating with us and thinking outside of the box to assist CRMH with throughput. Kudos to the entire team!
Darlene and Jeffrey were so kind and helpful to a patient that was total care. I was unable to change a patient's brief due to a broken hand, and they took over without hesitation. They went above and beyond for this patient! They also showed what teamwork is all about and had my back. Thanks again!!!
Recently, the inpatient units at CFMH began piloting post-discharge call backs to any patient discharged to home from the hospital. During one of these calls, Phyllis Dalton, RN received a question from a patient regarding one of her medications. The patient did not understand the instruction to check "SBP". Phyllis explained to the patient that this was the top number of her blood pressure. Phyllis then went back to the providers and collaborated with them to change the wording in these instructions to be more easily understood by patients.
