Karen Mulkey, an Infection Preventionist at Carilion Tazewell Community Hospital, teamed up with Health and Wellness Coach Susan Jewell to coordinate a highly successful Wellness Expo in Tazewell. This event brought  together 18 stakeholders in the health and wellness realm within the community, such as the local health department, Clinch Valley Hospital, The VA clinic, Appalachian Sustainable Development, and various private entities.

Kudos to Ethan Lawrence, a student intern in Communications, Marketing and Planning, for his work researching and sharing the history of the Fralin House at 903 Jefferson St. as part his final project in Roanoke College’s Spring 2024 “Objects, Buildings, Landscapes” course. The property, which was built as a private home in 1906 by one of Carilion's greatest benefactors, now houses the Carilion Clinic Foundation.

I would like to take some time and say wow to everyone! From the Folks in the Higher grounds Coffee shop to the EVS people. Nurses, Doctors, Techs, Lab, and everyone in between! Wow! I see your smiling faces all the time. Everyone is so busy and helpful.  We all work hard to care for the patients and one another. I see how hard everyone is working even when we are tired and struggling. I wanted you all to know your hard work is seen and how wonderful you are. Thank you for being you. 

I have been assigned to cover a surgery floor in one of my teammate's absence. Surgery is definitely my Achillles Heel, and it has been challenging. If it weren't for help and education provided by my colleague Lisa Carr, I would be lost. She has generously taken so much time explaining processes and helping me navigate the surgery reviews. I am almost beginning to feel right at home on this surgery unit. That would not have been possible without such great help. THANK YOU LISA!!!!!!!

Congratulations to Charles Daniel, M.D., a Carilion Urologist for performing the first simple transvesical prostatectomy in our region, a procedure that treats various urologic conditions. It was done using the single-port da Vinci robot, a minimally invasive technique that results in fewer incisions and a quicker recovery time. In 2022 Carilion hospice started a focus on the need for GIP (General Inpatient Hospice) for patients who need aggressive symptom management at end of life.  The program has grown into a team of 3 GIP RN's and 1 GIP SW.  In addition to this dedicated team at RMH patients and families also benefit from the full hospice experience.  These services include music and massage therapies, Veteran honoring ceremonies, End of Life Doula support, Chaplaincy and early bereavement.  In March this team had the opportunity to provide services to a record breaking 30 patients and famil

On Saturday, February 24th Terri Brewster, Radiologic Technologist and her father Doug Fox, represented CTCH at the annual Polar Plunge fundraising event hosted by Tazewell Today at Lincolnshire Park in Tazewell.  The event raised money to support Labor of Love Mission a non profit organization that provides food, clothing and many other services to families in Tazewell.  Terri was recognized for raising the most money for the event two years in a row!  She raised over $1100 and took the plunge to raise awareness and show support to our community partners.&n

On Thursday, March 14 at sundown, physicians, staff and family members of the Islamic faith tradition had the opportunity to observe Ramadan by breaking the daily fast together at CRMH.

Andrew Tressler, director of Chaplaincy Services, planned and arranged the observance that began with traditional prayers led by retired VTCSOM professor Dr. Saleem Ahmed, followed by a delicious meal and fellowship.
