History Intern Contributes to Walking Tour

Submitted by llstaley on

Kudos to Ethan Lawrence, a student intern in Communications, Marketing and Planning, for his work researching and sharing the history of the Fralin House at 903 Jefferson St. as part his final project in Roanoke College’s Spring 2024 “Objects, Buildings, Landscapes” course. The property, which was built as a private home in 1906 by one of Carilion's greatest benefactors, now houses the Carilion Clinic Foundation. It is one of seven Carilion buildings in Roanoke that he and his classmates researched and analyzed as part of a historical walking tour developed in collaboration with our corporate archive, where he works. Other buildings included in the walking tour were:

  • Former Gill Memorial Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital, 709 S. Jefferson St.
  • Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital, 101 Elm Ave.
  • 1030 S. Jefferson (to be new biotech lab space)
  • Simulation Center, 15 Old Woods Ave. SE
  • 1, 3 and 6 Riverside Circle
  • Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, 1906 Belleview Ave.
