We're thrilled to introduce a new QR code pilot at ION that empowers our patients to play an active role in promoting safety and quality care! Patients visiting the orthopaedic clinics can now scan a QR code in the exam rooms to provide quick and easy feedback on their providers' hand hygiene.

This innovative initiative is a huge step forward in ensuring the highest standards of patient care, and if successful, we hope to expand it to all of Carilion’s ambulatory clinics!

Shayla, RN from 10S Palliative took the time out of a busy shift to come help the nurses on 7 Mountain PCU who were having difficulty with a PCA pump. She was quick to arrive to the unit and helped the patient receive their pain medication as quickly as possible. Thank you so much!

Saturday was one of the most challenging shifts I have worked recently. The team of people below made the day a success (hopefully I'm not forgetting anyone). I am so lucky to work with such a great crew. Everyone gave 110% and the "every patient is my patient" mentality is what made it possible.  🙂

Last Friday afternoon our ED at CFMH was in need of additional stretchers due to the acuity of several of our patients. I received a call from our ED physician asking for help. I contacted Leonard Dishner. 

I would like to give a shout out to Niya Thompson from the Carilion warehouse. The way Ms. Thomspon went above and beyond her job description is much appreciated. Niya packed the totes for deliver in way that cut down on my time putting items away and made my Monday morning so smooth.

Sgt. Buck Blevins and Officer Wayne David responded to a request for police support related to a high potential for violence on the Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit. They immediately established rapport with the patient through respectful, empathetic communication. Their assistance in de-escalating the situation and collaborative effort to promote safety is much appreciated. 

I was consulted to help a patient who was elderly and had chronic back pain. Ellen Fedison, Physical Therapist came by for a session and massaged some "knots" out of his back. He has been raving about her and how she took away most of his back pain and made it easier for him to breath. This is important as he has double pneumonia, extensive DDD, and CKD on dialysis.
