Congratulations to Remelyn “Remy” Wilhelm for becoming a United States Citizen! Remy is a Materials Management specialist at Mini-D as well as a member of the first group in the YES program.
Earning US Citizenship is a long journey with loads of paperwork, travel, study, testing and an interview. Remy did the work and passed everything with flying (red, white & blue) colors. We are proud of you and happy that you are here at Carilion.
While completing an ED patient's medication reconciliation, CGCH Pharmacy Student Christabel Larbi discovered a patient had been prescribed an antibiotic for 3 months. Pharmacist Amanda Terry reviewed the patient's chart, contacted the ordering physician to find that the patient should be taking the antibiotic for only 10 days! Medication Reconciliation is very important for many reasons, this highlights just one of those reasons! I am proud of our staff!
Dawn Wells was very helpful and knowledgeable. She took the time to explain referral information that I needed to complete and close an encounter. She was open to all of my questions and quick to answer. She showed me how document and fill out specific areas in the referral that are necessary. She also explained the routing and flow of referrals through the system. Her details were specific and easy to understand. I am not a front office staff or a referral coordinator, so referrals are not something I have been trained to work on.
As part of the outreach for the We Honor Veterans program, Carilion Clinic Hospice of Franklin County created a display offering letters to veteran visitors to the MOB. CFMH staff who are veterans were also invited to participate. Written by active-duty service members from across the country, the letters express appreciation for the service and sacrifice of those who had gone before them in the armed forces. Eighteen letters were received by veterans who visited the facility.
CRBH would like to recognize Samantha Morris, CNA for her recent Great Catch that saved a patient's life. Samantha identified that a patient with angioedema was experiencing progressively worsening symptoms in a short amount of time and she quickly initiated a rapid response which brought the care that the patient needed. This situation could have escalated quickly if it had not been for Samantha's quick action and attention to detail while rounding on her patients. Outstanding job Samantha!
