Ali demonstrated exceptional diligence in preventing a potential medication error involving a pediatric patient. She identified that the medication ordered by the provider was not appropriate for the patient, even after pharmacy verification. Noticing that the medication name was similar to another drug and could easily be confused, Ali took immediate action by notifying the provider. As a result, the correct medication was promptly ordered.

Dr. Jasmine Jackson-Akers with the OPAT team at Carilion Infectious Disease recently went above and beyond in supporting a patient with an infectious disease requiring complex therapy. She demonstrated persistent commitment to the patient’s clinical needs and took extraordinary steps to advocate for the medical necessity of a specialized medication with multiple appeals and lengthy conversations with patients' insurance company ultimately helping secure approval for this specialized treatment.
