On Friday, July 19, 2024, there was a Global software issue that affected our SPD surgical tray tracking system.  SPD partnered with their OR team to ensure there were no cancellations of surgical cases. There were numerous process changes, improvements and teamwork within the SPD department and Operating room that day. While many hospitals across the nation had to cancel cases, our teamwork allowed us to take care of all patients that day. Great work!

A huge congratulations to two units at CNRV for reaching 3 months with no hospital acquired infections. This amazing achievement could not have been reached without the dedication to infection prevention by the amazing front line staff!

Staff, Providers, and Leaders celebrated being HAI free for 3 months in our Inpatient Units (Acute Care and Intensive Care). Through collaboration and daily multidisciplinary huddles, staff have worked together to ensure devices are removed timely, bundles are followed, and adhere to Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures to keep patients safe. 

Carilion Tazewell Community Hospital honored the Quarter Century Society by hosting a special luncheon.  CTCH has 15 employees with 25 years or more of service.  We are proud of our Quarter Century Society and grateful for their outstanding commitment to our mission to improve the health of our community.

The BEE Award recognizes the extraordinary work of our nursing support staff who go above any beyond for our patients, their families, and our community. 

New River Valley Mental  Health discharged a special needs patient to his home which was several hours from the hospital.  He had limited cognitive ability and no money.

A BIG Thank You to Anesthesiologist Matt Cross for catching a mistake in the PACU. A patient was rushed to the PACU from the ED with a sheet of incorrect patient labels. This nurse jumping in to help get the patient settled for Pre-op in the PACU after a very long and busy shift, mislabeled the patient's belongings bag and anesthesia consent document. Dr. Matt Cross noticed the incorrect labels, promptly pointing them out to me in the patient bay. Labels were checked against the patient's armband and correctly placed on the belongings and consent document.

On Wednesday, July 24th, Carilion Police and Security Officers received a call to assist the Quest Diagnostic Lab Employees who were reporting hearing banging on walls and someone screaming for help. Security Officer Shawn Cole responded to this call and located an employee trapped inside of a restroom that the interior doorknob and the emergency staff assist button were inoperable leaving the employee no way of getting out. Security Officer Cole was able to free the employee quickly, ensuring that the employee was okay and returned to work.

Celebrating Bill Battin's Remarkable Journey and Retirement

We are thrilled to congratulate Bill Battin on his upcoming retirement after an extraordinary 48 years of dedicated service at RMH. Bill's journey with Roanoke Memorial began on June 28, 1976, when he joined RMH at the age of 19, and since then, he has become a cornerstone of our maintenance department, serving longer than any other individual.
