This is What We Train For: Honoring Bill Battin's 48 Years at CRMH

Celebrating Bill Battin's Remarkable Journey and Retirement

We are thrilled to congratulate Bill Battin on his upcoming retirement after an extraordinary 48 years of dedicated service at RMH. Bill's journey with Roanoke Memorial began on June 28, 1976, when he joined RMH at the age of 19, and since then, he has become a cornerstone of our maintenance department, serving longer than any other individual.

Bill's commitment to CRMH is part of a proud family tradition. His mother, Dorothy (Jean), dedicated 17 years in the Emergency Department, while his father, Robert (Bob), served in maintenance for 35 years. Bill's younger brother, Tommy, continues this legacy with 16 years of service in our maintenance department. Together, the Battin family boasts an impressive 116 years of combined service to Carilion Roanoke Memorial.

Throughout his career, Bill has exemplified resilience and excellence. In 2018, while courageously battling cancer, he was honored with the President's Award, a testament to his unwavering dedication and exceptional contributions.

Bill's career trajectory is a testament to his hard work and leadership. He spent over 26 years as a skilled plumber before being promoted to a team lead around 2002. After a decade of exemplary performance, he advanced to the role of supervisor around 2012. In recognition of his outstanding leadership and expertise, Bill was promoted to manager in September 2023.

One of Bill's most memorable attributes is his unwavering positivity in the face of challenges. Often, when tasked with a difficult challenge or crisis, Bill would remark, "This is what we train for," encapsulating his readiness and determination.

Outside of work, Bill is a devoted family man. He shares his life with his beloved wife, Wanda, and their two wonderful daughters, Shiela and Tonya.

As we celebrate Bill's remarkable career and bid him farewell, we extend our deepest gratitude for his unparalleled service and commitment. Bill, your legacy will continue to inspire us all, and we wish you a joyful and fulfilling retirement.
