Valerie Horton at Floyd Family Practice is awesome. She went above and beyond to try and get records from an outside facility that dated 17 years ago. Over the span of about a month, there was a lot of back and forth from this other facility causing delays and kinks in obtaining these records. She never let up and never forgot to stay on top of this for the patient. Her continuous dedication to her job and advocacy for her patients makes her one of the best Carilion has on their team. Thank you so much Valerie for all of your years of dedication to our patients, families, and co-workers.

Kudos to Alania McKlarney for recognizing and reporting an issue with the call system in a patient room. Her attentiveness and vigilance helped ensure patients had reliable access to assistance when needed. We appreciate Alania’s commitment to patient safety and for promptly bringing this concern forward.

Guest and Volunteer Services Senior Director Peggy Sowers plans to retire after 40 years of dedicated service effective Aug. 3. This achievement represents far more than tenure, reflects a remarkable legacy shaped by commitment, resilience, and a steadfast dedication to excellence.

The CTCH EVS Team celebrated CTCH's recognition in Becker's Hospital Review for cleanliness based on the CMS Star Ratings for Patient Experience.  Their role is essential in creating a safe, welcoming environment for our patients and everyone who enters our facility.  We are proud of this recognition and truly grateful for their daily commitment to our patients and team.

9 CST ICU is B.R.U.S.H.ing IT! 

Today we had the privilege of celebrating an incredible milestone with the 9 CST ICU team! They are the first ICU to achieve >90% compliance in ventilated toothbrushing - an outstanding accomplishment that reflects unwavering dedication to patient safety and harm prevention.

I want to recognize, Aine Cattigan and Dr. Zachary Holcomb, two outstanding members of the Carilion team who went above and beyond for a single patient. They spent many hours reviewing data and infusion protocols, collaborating with colleagues, and carefully building a complex infusion plan tailored to this patient’s unique needs. This patient has been suffering from a unique condition, and before the work of Aine and Dr. Holcomb, this treatment was not offered in Southwest Virginia.

The CRCH TSG office has an inconspicuous area that has a sink, etc. on the 2nd floor.  We had been out of paper towels in the dispenser for some time, but as I said I don't think EVS was aware.  I walked over to the EVS office and mentioned it to the staff there.  Daryl immediately went on a mission and handled the situation!  His efforts are greatly appreciated by us at CRCH TSG!!!  Daryl is a friendly and courteous man as well.
