After a distinguished career of more than 20 years as a pioneer of Human Factors Implementation in Healthcare, Dr Laurie Wolf is retiring. She has been the torchbearer of the Carilion Human factors team for 7+ years and has overseen the growth of this department to one of the larger embedded HF operations in the nation. We are so fortunate to have received her knowledge and expertise.

Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital was awarded a Resolution of Recognition by the Franklin County Board of Supervisors on April 15th, 2025. This recognition was given in part as a result of being recognized for Patient Safety Excellence by Healthgrades, a distinction that places CFMH among the top hospitals in the nation for patient safety and quality care.

Yesterday, 4/23/25, Infection Preventionists from Carilion Infection Prevention and Control department along with a student intern from Liberty University, attended Hollins University Student Health Fair. The IPs and student presented education on various topics including sexual health/STD prevention, hand hygiene, sun safety and mental health as it relates to substance abuse and infectious diseases such as Hepatitis C. 

Our Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Programs at CRMH recently underwent a very successful tri-annual re-verification visit by the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Office of EMS (OEMS). 

For over a decade, Carilion Clinic’s Volunteer Services department has awarded scholarship funds to remarkable young people who have served in our programs.

Morningside Urban Farm's season kicked off with a great opening event, including a special thank-you to Chris and Rich Maxwell for their generous donation of a new table and benches. Their gift adds a warm, welcoming spot for gathering and enjoying the space.

Chris has been part of the Carilion team for 29 years and currently works as a flexible CHO nurse. Many may know her for her dedication to patients and her willingness to help wherever she’s needed. This thoughtful donation is just another example of the impact she and her husband, Rich, make in the community.

At the Feb staff meeting a meal celebration was done to highlight the wonderful work of no CLABSI's for 6 years and no CAUTI's for 3 years.  I couldn't be prouder of the staff on the excellent work!
