JP was on his way to lunch when he heard someone calling for help for his mother in the bathroom. JP rushed into the ladies restroom on the 3rd floor, saw someone on the floor and immediately called for help and started CPR/Compressions. He continued working with someone from the OR to save this lady's life until the code team arrived.

The Department of Surgery's Western Region Practice Director, Becky Fritz, MPH, and Section Chief, Charles Bissell, M.D., were selected to present at the recent Press Ganey National Client Conference in Orlando.  Their presentation to a large audience of Press Ganey clients from across the country described the development and implementation of a shared decision-making model between providers and patients in the Western Region practices.  This model has resulted in significant improvements in patient experience scores over the past couple of years.  Many thanks to Becky, Dr.

Jacob Mack works in Environmental Services. Today he saved the day! We were with a critical patient  being transferred to a higher level of care. Upon arriving to the receiving unit, it was found that the patient's room was in need of further cleaning. We had seen Jacob in the hallway while on the way to the unit and he politely held the doors for us, the patient, and all of the equipment. We went to him and asked him if he could help us.

I want to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU and share our appreciation for the hard work and positive attitude that Bonnie Gusler shares on a daily basis. This shift started out very busy for us in ICU. At the start of the shift we had to move out two of our patients to Acute Care, transfer one of the Acute Care patients into ICU, and get an admission from the Emergency Department. That meant there were two ICU rooms and one room on Acute Care that needed to be cleaned in a timely manner to facilitate a transfer and an admission.

Cheers to Melissa Cash (Health Analytics) for volunteering to meet with our clients in Ortho to gather specifics on their needs for a project our team is working on.

Not only did Melissa volunteer to meet with the client, she also shared her expertise with scheduling appointments, and related practices, with all teams.  By her sharing her existing knowledge of the process and the specifics from her meeting, it profoundly cut down research time for everyone involved on the project.

Congratulations to the NRV Hospice staff on achieving We Honor Veterans Partner Level Four, the highest recognition of this exciting program! 

Danny our mobility aide is always helpful with staff to coordinate timing per nurse request. Danny keeps nurse informed of concerns with mobility or performance of incentive spirometry. Danny converses with patients and attempts to ease their concerns. Danny receives compliments from physician staff and patients. Danny is known by physicians and they will individually request him to ambulate their patient.

St. Albans would like to recognize Joni Davis as the November 2018 employee of the month. Joni goes above and beyond for our patients. She ensures all our of discharging patients have appropriate follow up appointments before they leave. Joni is showing the Commitment to Carilion's Standards!

I wanted to give a quick shout-out this morning to the entire staff at CSJH for helping to ensure that two patients were able to vote in the Election this morning.  Carmen Bradford, RN (ICU) worked as a patient advocate to make sure that the wishes of both patients were known, and Holly Ostby (Community Development Coordinator) worked diligently to receive approval for two emergency absentee ballots for both patients.  Holly even took the time to make sure that both votes were counted.  This is just one example of the level of compassion, commitment and care that is being pro
