Carilion Giles Community Hospital implemented public screenings at the main entrance on March 13, 2020.

On that very first day, our community health educator, Stephanie Spencer from Community Outreach stepped up to be our very first screener. Geared up in the appropriate PPE, not her normal attire, she has served in this position since that time, sharing her positivity and good spirits with all our patients and visitors, as well as training many others who serve in this position as well.

Valerie Laufenberg I would like to recognize Elizabeth Cowen of CFM oak grove. when the corona pandemic first got started she had a call from a patient frantic in what she needed to do. she contacted infectious disease and when the person was unable to help her, she then contacted someone else who could help her. she had the patient on hold during the call so that she could quickly and calmly tell the patient what she needed to do. Elizabeth is amazing with the phones and patients!!

I would like to recognize Mike Lewis of the RMH TSG team for his fast & furious service.  I had several keys on my laptop that were not working, mostly they were number keys.  I discovered this while helping reschedule patients and trying to add their phone numbers to notes for rescheduling at a later date.  I entered an Edison ticket and Mike texted me in order to connect with a time that worked for me to check my laptop.  With most TSG assets going to remote workers, I knew the chances of getting a new laptop were slim.  Within an hour of picking up my laptop,

I wanted to thank Angela for going above and beyond and stepping in to help wherever she's needed before even being asked. She helped me calm a fearful child in getting their vaccinations and was ready to jump in if needed. Thank you for your willingness to help and all of your kindness!

Margaret Self shows  commitment every time she works!!! Its nothing for her to be called to another floor and just jump right in,, All while smiling and being there for the patients as well.  She is truly a team player!! 

The team of 5 West would like to recognize Kaitlyn Price for her attentiveness and assertiveness lead to the interception of drugs that were intended for one of our patients and the role that she had on those events. Her sense of awareness and attentiveness to the safety and security of our unit very likely save the life of one of our patients and that should be recognized, applauded, and appreciated. Her level of commitment to her role is admirable and the concern for the safety of our patients is invaluable.

A big thank you to Wendy Poague and Rob Woodson with Clinical administration for the support they gave our unit today.  They were quick to respond to patient needs and staffs need.  Thank you Wendy and Rob.

Ms. Carolyn Napper (EVS) worked another overtime shift this week on CSICU. She did an amazing job cleaning each and every room and was even very interactive and helpful to the patients and the staff. She mopped the entire nurses' station as well as the Doctor's charting area. She even politely asked one of our cardiac surgeons to lift his feet so that she could do her job well and mop the entire floor which I thought was amazing. Thanks for all you do Carolyn!

She is being recognized for her leadership of our organization and as past board chair of the American Hospital Association. She has also been named by Modern Healthcare magazine to its list of 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare for four years in a row.

Dr. Stephanie Lareau was presented with the 2019 Mountain Laurel Award earlier this week. The Mountain Laurel Award is a lifetime achievement award that has recognized her significant contributions to the Wilderness Medicine in the southern Appalachians.
