You may have already heard the news.. Amanda Kidd has accepted a CNO position in Oklahoma City, OK.  This position will give her an opportunity to advance her career. She will leave us September 9th for her endeavor on September 23rd.  Carilion would like to thank you and extend appreciation wishes as you bid farewell.  You have been a treasured employee of the company for 15 years.  Thank you for bringing your best to work every single day.

Our own Amber Duncan was recognized at the Culinary Creations Dinner during Premier's annual Food Service Forum, held in conjunction with its 2019 Breakthroughs Conference and Exhibition, which drew more than 4,000 Health Care Providers and Suppliers to Nashville, Tennessee, June 18th-21st. This  year's theme, Classic Entree with a Twist, challenged participants to take a fresh approach to traditional recipes, maximizing fresh ingredients and reflecting an overall healthier profile. Amber's recipe, Not Your Mother's Pot Pie", was voted in the top 10 submitted recipes.

Clinical Administrators Adam Church and Rob Woodson, noticed while looking at a patient’s chart that something was not quite right.  Adam and Rob took action to help fix the problem.  Their efforts led to family members locating their hospitalized family member and helped other Carilion employees not make any errors regarding this particular patient.  Thanks Adam and Rob!  Acting on your curiosity helped saved the day!

Some would say it takes a village to create a great television commercial. In the case of our recently launched "Curiosity Is Our Calling” campaign, it took a dedicated team from Marketing and Communications, a film crew of more than 20, and a lot of very helpful and very patient Carilion employees. 

The 7W Falls Task Force is improving patient safety with an innovative partnership with the Center for Simulation Research and Patient Safety. All 7W staff completed a customized fall prevention training that was based on actual case studies. Special thank you to Amanda Anderson for developing and facilitating 9 classes over a span of 3 days.

Ottilia can be seen on 9M, NTPCU, with a smile on her face, working with her team to keep our patient's safe. 

She is caring, considerate and is patient-centered.  Ottilia recently shared how Rothman Index was beneficial in monitoring a patient closely for changes indicative of worsening status. Ottilia utilized this technology to intervene on a patient with known issues with thermoregulation and tachycardia. 

I wanted to recognize Nancy Schuessler for going above a beyond in assisting my employees during the snow storm on December 11, 2018. Employees working support services often are overlooked when assistance is needed for overnight accommodations but Nancy always reaches out to assist in anyway possible which is very much appreciated. Our employees in Dining Services makes the commitment to service patient needs and overnight stays are often needed. So thank you Nancy for helping our team provide the excellent patient satisfaction expected at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center.

As the snow falls we have some good men working to maintain our hospital parking lots. But i want to give a special thanks to Wayne and Charlie for there heroic act. As they saw a by standard having trouble traveling through the snow. They took their time to help get them out of the road safely. I myself would like to thank them for their heroic act.
