A much deserved recognition to David Bowers for always being willing to streamline any software we use to gain efficiencies!

David offered to add a Forms page to our REDCap Project Log with the intent of reducing the number of emails that need to be sent between HART and R&D.

He also volunteered to help streamline the Crystal report we use to run feasibility for clinical trials, which made it run more efficiently.  He also added the Providers location lookup query so we don't have to go elsewhere to locate it.

The annual American College of Physicians (ACP) Doctor's Dilemma® competition is a hallmark program for the College. It brings together some of the brightest residents from around the world in a friendly but highly competitive environment. The competition tests the medical knowledge of up to 60 teams, each representing an ACP chapter. After three days of competition, the winning team is awarded the coveted "Osler Cup" and is granted a place in ACP history.

Lori participated in the first Carilion Clinic Nursing Research & EBP Virtual Poster fair that displayed nursing scholarly work from December 2020 to February 1, 2021. Her poster entitled "Noble Metal Catheters and Catheter-Associated Urinary Track Infections" was voted to receive the Peoples Choice Award! Congratulations, Lori - excellent work!

The Marketing and Communications team took home several awards recently for their creative work in advertising and design. The following awards were announced at the Western Virginia American Advertising Awards, or ADDYs:

John Burnette will come and dump our linen bags when he comes and picks up linen in the soiled utility room. He always has a smile and manners. We enjoy his upbeat personality. He always goes out of his way if we need something to help us out. 

Kendal Lillard, MSN, Nurse Educator at St Albans Behavioral Health saw the need of a patient and quickly got to work thinking of and researching ideas that would help them while on our unit.  She had the privilege of caring for a deaf patient.  This patient was able to read lips but was experiencing frustration because of the masks that staff have to wear prohibits him from reading their lips.  Kendal quickly went to work looking at our masks and looking at ways that the masks could be improvised in order for the patient to see staff's mouths and staff maintaining the COVID 1

Dr Randall Rhea, MD at Vinton Family Practice, acted with curiosity when one of his patient's presented with symptoms of a one week history of increasing fatigue and generalized weakness.  Right sided headache and severe body aches.  Dr Rhea sent him for an urgent CT scan.  The scan showed an acute on chronic subdural hemorrhage.  Patient was admitted to RMH and underwent evacuation of hematoma.  Today the patient is doing very well.  During a recent phone conversation,  patient started crying.  He stated  " I want to do something to recognize Dr
