American born citizens can sometimes take the very special privilege of being a United States citizen for granted. Not so for two very special immigrants that have worked in the Carilion Laundry since 2016. Esther Maradyan and Ibrahimkhalil Bilal have recently been sworn in as new American citizens. We are proud of the courage that it took for both of them to come to our country and start a new life. We are proud that they went through the work to learn to speak the language and learn our laws and history. Please join me in congratulating Esther and Ibrahim!!

While reviewing charts for the following day, Deanna discovered a lab result that was positive and concerning. The patient was scheduled to come for her first infusion but there was nothing in the chart that suggested the ordering provider was aware of the positive result and whether the patient should or should not proceed with the infusion. The provider was made aware of the lab result, he reviewed her chart and deemed the benefit greater than the risk so we proceeded with the transfusion. Deanna’s attention to detail made sure this patient was safely taken care of.

During the month of December Officer Hawks did great work on Assisting Law enforcement in identifying a suspect who committed Larceny at CFMH, and again assisted Law enforcement by stopping a Breaking and entering at a building across the street from the CFMH facility by identifying and showing Police where the suspect was located.

Great job!!!

Nov. 11 is Veterans Day, a day to honor our veterans for their service to our country.

Veterans Day began as Armistice Day, Nov. 11, 1918, to mark the end of World War I. It later became a legal holiday to honor World War I veterans. By 1954, after World War II and the Korean War, the name “Armistice” was replaced with “Veterans” and the holiday expanded to honor American veterans of all wars.

Our Team Leader, Kathy Williams, created this wall to honor Kyle Goodman, our team veteran and the team's family members who are veterans.  Thank you all for your service.  Home of the free because of the Brave.

Carlotta Parker, aka "Cat", came to CNRVMC just several weeks ago working in housekeeping.  She left San Diego, CA to come to Virginia to be near family.  Cat is deaf and in a world of masks has to read lips.  Ive enjoyed her teaching me some sign language and she is very encouraging to say how well I am learning although it is really her that is a good teacher, patient and always happy.  Besides adjusting to the new culture of Virginia, her new job and how to best communicate with her co-workers, her car broke down and she is living at a hotel until she can find an apar
