We had a Covid patient in ICU who didn't like any of the food that was brought to her.  Jeanette talked with the patient to find out what she liked.  She said when she talked to the patient about food her face lit up   When Jeanette's shift ended, she went to Kroger and got the patient her brand of ice cream and oatmeal like she would eat at home!! Jeanette is an exceptional RN and it shows in her compassionate care!.

Just want to recognize Brenda Kellam for her over and above compassion.  Brenda was a POA with a patient that was being upgraded to the ICU.  His breathing was labored and he was understandably apprehensive.  When Clinical Administrators entered the room to help with his transfer, Brenda was at the patient's bedside, continually comforting him and holding his hand.  She stayed by his bedside the entire time and offered to accompany us during the transfer even though her shift was over.  She was so genuine in her care and her calmness and professionalism were wonderf

Realizing the impacts of visitor restrictions and being hospitalized during the holidays, CGCH departments decided to take action.  Various departments within the facility adopted a patient room and decorated the outside with lights and holiday scenes.  It provided an enlightening experience for the patients and staff who witnessed Candy Land, Santa, Frosty the Snowman and others.   We are so thankful to have such caring and compassionate staff that go the extra mile to brighten someone's day!

Tony in EVS does an awesome job of ensuring our patients rooms are always cleaned well when he works our floor. He is so pleasant! On 12/26, a patient asked him if he could ask someone to help put her socks on. He offered to help her. He goes above and beyond for our patients on 10 Mtn. Thanks for all you do Tony! We appreciate it!

The pediatric hematology/oncology clinic is not an easy place to be around the holidays.  We get fed very well by our families, but we always seem to have too many children diagnosed around the holidays.  This year has been no exception, and like everywhere else, COVID has left a mark, affecting patients as well as staff, and every member of our team has been under the stress of knowing we cannot get ill, because these children need us.  The week of 12/14 was one of the busiest weeks we have had in the 16 years I have been here.  Our nurse manager, the wonderful Karrie M

Thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and staff on the PCU and 8 Mtn ICU that cared for my father, Bill Inman, who succumbed to COVID in November.  The hardest days of our lives were having him in RMH and not being able to be with him.  They comforted him when we could not; they supported him when we could not and at the end they held his hand and sent him off to his next venture when we could not.  I am so very grateful to them for taking my many calls during the day and night without complaint.  My father told me every day that he felt cared for and safe.  The Doc

I would like to give a shout out to Brenda at the Barns Rd testing site in Christiansburg. I had to go there to have a Covid test done to return to work after having an exposure. Brenda took the time to explain everything in great detail before doing the test and then kept me informed as she was doing the test with how much time was left and what was going on. She was so gentle, well as could be, and made things go so smooth. Hands down. Brenda deserves recognition for her hard work and dedication!

Our CNRV rehabilitation team came together to collect money to shop for some special kiddos this Christmas. I am thankful to work with some of the most amazing, kind, generous  people. I couldn’t have survived this crazy pandemic life without these beautiful souls. 

An employee from the aortic center called the transfer center about a patient who was scheduled to come in as a same day admission tomorrow for AAA repair by Dr. Adams. The patient called the office expressing concern that he may not be able to get to the hospital in the morning due to the weather. His original plan was to take an Uber from Lynchburg at 0530 in the morning. He told the office he was instead going to Uber to Roanoke this evening just to make sure he could get here.
