As we all know Ben our phlebotomist is a kind caring soul.  Ben took the time to help me with a combative patient.  Many people would have walked out of the room but not Ben. All of us on MCU appreciate his great care with the patients and smiles and Hellos to the Staff. Thank you Ben!!!!

Going Above and Beyond-Infusion Patient

Submitted by lrwoods on

Michelle has gone above and beyond in her job role through this pandemic. Helping with Infusion Center patients and COVID testing, she has gone above and beyond by advocating for a patient who was primary care giver over his wife. Michelle personally called the Infusion CTL to assist in providing the best solution for the patient and wife. The patient was then arranged to have his treatment at the RMH Infusion Center location on 6West where he was able to bring his wife as a visitor to a private room. Great collaboration and communication of patient needs Michelle!

I had my covid test today, and I want to thank our Carilion Security officer who was bright and positive and DEDICATED to his work (he drives up from Covington area!).  Stacy was also very professional, kind and gentle with the swabbing (my third).  KUDOS to the team at the testing center!

Above and Beyond Chandra Carpenter!!

Submitted by jamurphy on

Our Coworker, Chandra Carpenter, on MCU spent a great deal of time on the phone with a patient's family member trying to walk them through setting up An Apple User Name, password, how to use Messaging, and how to do video chat so they could communicate with the patient. Chandra has patience of a saint answering all their questions. Her compassion for both the patient and the family is heartwarming. Kudos to Chandra from her MCU Family!! We love you Chandra!!!

Brandi Tomlin, NP is a rock star!

Submitted by msburton on

Today at Carilion Rockbridge Brandi Tomlin, NP went above and beyond to get a patient, who is in isolation, a soda.  She went to 4 different locations looking for the soda that had been asked for.  Due to the visitation policies in place the pt was feeling really low this morning and Brandi made her day!  What a compassionate rock star!

Ensuring a Safe and Reliable Ride Home

Submitted by cdhazelwood on

A CTS patient was being discharge, and lived home with his wife. His wife did not drive and the patient did not have any other family members to assist him with transportation. The patient attempted to call a city cab that delayed his transport for over an hour, and then never showed up. Kaelyn Edwards, RN and Haylee McGuire, RN from 7 South CVI -PCU were going to make sure our patient had a safe ride home. They had offered to take him home themselves but was on shift until 7:15pm.

CNRV Daisy Award Nominee

Submitted by lawaddell on

The May/June CNRV Daisy Award goes to Katherine Lauinger, RN with our CCU Team! Thank you for all you do Katherine! Some of the things her patients had to say about her:

Katherine was my nurse yesterday. She went with me to have a scan, carrying things that were connected to me. She is a light in the world! So willing and competent in her role as a nurse. I could not have gone through this process without her.

Christmas on 8 MTN PCU for the Covid patients

Submitted by seharris on

Bobby Wimmer RN realized that we would have patients with Covid in the hospital during Christmas who would not be able to have family visit them. He collected donations and then went and purchased battery lit Christmas trees for every room. Bobby plans to place a tree in every room on Christmas Eve so that patients will be able to enjoy a small part of Christmas. Bobby demonstrated the Carilion Value of Compassion. We are lucky to have Bobby as part of the 8 MPCU team.

Wonderful Check In!

Submitted by ndrose on

Edward Cordell works with guest services assisting people when they are getting checked in for surgery. I recently had a surgery and he was extremely friendly and helpful getting checked in, waiting for Pre-op. He has to give the same information to each patient that comes up to the desk, but no matter how many times he has to do that each patient is treated with kindness, compassion, and none are rushed. He is greatly appreciated and provides great patient care!

Amber NA (night shift on 12/2/20) has so much compassion for her patients, no matter the situation and gets creative when trying to re-direct and support the patients on her unit. She was a pleasure to work with and an inspiration.
