The September/October CNRV Bee Award goes to Patty Furrow with our Surgical Care Unit Team! Patty exemplifies the pillars of Carilion and is cherished by both co-workers and patients! Some of the things patients had to say about Patty were:

With this being the third visit to the 7th floor inpatient rehab unit at Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital, we can only say it gets better.  The compassion that every team members exhibits by the minute blows you away, from the nurses, therapists, NA's, etc.  They go above and beyond to make sure the patient and the family, which is me, feel comfortable and at ease.  There expertise is above and beyond and their motivation and dedication for the patient is undescribable.  I cannot say enough good things about them!!!!

I'm very thankful for my amazing co-workers. I've had an unexpected accident to deal with that has involved my child being hospitalized and will have a major surgery in a few days.   My co-workers have been there for support, lending an ear, offering to help me in anyway they can.  I can't express how much this means to me.  I'm truly blessed to have such a wonderful work family.  All of you deserve this WOW. 

Thank you to Lindsey Bixel, ED RN!   Lindsey made a difference for an acute stroke patient's care.  She stayed with the patient and comforted him thru his CT scan.  The imaging allowed the Neurology/Stroke team to determine our plan of care.  

Lindsey, your "can-do" attitude and problem solving skills are appreciated by all of us.

Carilion Clinic Stroke Program

I want to tell a little Christmas Story. One of our co-workers at CNRV Rehab Department has had a particularly rough year. In response we decided as a group to help her out with Christmas presents for her two kids. When I was composing the e-mail I was trying to include several new employees into my group text, and I inadvertently added Libbie Brown from the Authorization Department down in Park View. She immediately responded back that she was not the right Libbie, but also said she was touched by the situation and wanted to donate to the cause.

Mary Kate on 6east was absolutely outstanding!! While being a patient  (I am a employee in the emergency department)she showed me compassion, direction a lending ear and went above and beyond to ensure my stay as a patient was over the top. She is a outstanding nurse and carilion is very blessed to have her as a employee. 

I know these are hard times but 8 Mountain ICU is kickin butt and taking names, everyone up there RNs, RTs and MDs. Your hardwork and dedication does not go unnoticed or unappreciated!

Surgical nurse, Erin Nicely, was getting a gentleman ready for cataract surgery as a normal part of her day in the Ambulatory Care Unit at Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital. The gentleman mentioned that he is a resident of a local in-patient care facility and that he had not had a hair cut since the Covid crises started many months ago. He explained that the facility would not allow anyone to come in to cut the residents' hair or do any of the other personal care tasks that they so much enjoyed.

Scott Brown, CRNA, CNRV stayed way  beyond scheduled shift to help staff.  His outstanding commitment allowed the patients to receive care immediately.

This is to recognize Megan Phillips for her capacity to multi-task even in the most stressful of events. The team is stronger because of your smile, especially when a smile is the medicine we all need! Thanks to you we remain organized and recognized!
