Therapy and Cardiac Rehab Services decided not to exchange gifts with each other this year. Instead $400 was raised and Christmas gifts were bought for three local children. The two departments truly showed compassion for the communities needs and how teamwork can get the work done. Thank you team!
I would like to recognize my co-workers and managers in 9 east acute care PT/OT/Speech department overwhelming generosity and compassion. I recently was out of work for three months waiting for my 7th eye surgery. The acute care staff assisted my family and I with overwhelming PTO and financial donations This is one the most heartfelt things I've experienced personally. I've come to realize that our acute care therapy department does this on a routine basis. I'm thankful to be surrounded by such great people.
The staff of 9 West went out of their way to help celebrate a patient with a lengthy hospitalization's birthday. Not only did they decorate his room and bring him cupcakes, but they also got him a beta fish so he had something to brighten his days. They made his day special. He named the fish Sandy (in case you were wondering).
The CAPS Process Improvement team joined volunteers at the Feeding Southwest Virginia Salem food pantry to help fill 420 boxed food 'kits' for seniors dealing with food scarcity
Staff went above and beyond to bring a little bit of happiness to a patient that has been in the hospital for over 430 days. Staff made cupcakes, happy birthday sang , purchased a camel pack to drink from, decorated the bed and even bought a pet beta fish, to be named by the patient. This is compassion at its all time best.
I work for the absolute best team! I started at Occ Health as a temp, and after the first day I ABSOLUTELY LOVED it here. Every one in this dept and within the two offices works as the best team! I can not point out any one individual. But what i told my boss today, "This whole dept makes you feel like an equal. Not one person makes you feel like he or she is better than another, even the physicians. We are all equal!, and I absolutely love it! So my WOW goes out to the ENTIRE Occ Health Dept!
CVI Socks It to the Rescue Mission of Roanoke Fralin Free Clinic for the Homeless
Sandy Sayre leads a team of volunteers who provide community outreach healthcare services at homeless encampments around the Roanoke area. One of many needs is foot care. Many of the homeless do not have a dry pair of socks to apply when theirs become soiled or damaged. Wearing wet socks can do so much damage to otherwise healthy feet let alone feet with wounds or other hygiene concerns.
My Husband L was a patient on PCU not too long ago. He would like to Nominate Katie Thacker for the Daisy Award. He was impressed by her good care.
After asking around for weeks, Adrian Wilson (Pharmacy Director) Was able to help get us a working Microwave for our break room! He doesn't know me however I want him to know that it is much appreciated that he helped get it, or at least got the information to the correct person, and was able to make it happen! (this is not even his department) Lots of Thanks!!
Special thank you to employees from Carilion Clinic, Carilion Childrens' Delta Dental and Freedom First who joined together to donate ingredients (including turkeys!) for complete thanksgiving meals for 100 Fallon Park elementary school families. These organizations are partners of the Local Impact for Tomorrow (LIFT) Center at the school.
