CVI Socks It to the Rescue Mission of Roanoke Fralin Free Clinic for the Homeless

Sandy Sayre leads a team of volunteers who provide community outreach healthcare services at homeless encampments around the Roanoke area. One of many needs is foot care. Many of the homeless do not have a dry pair of socks to apply when theirs become soiled or damaged. Wearing wet socks can do so much damage to otherwise healthy feet let alone feet with wounds or other hygiene concerns.

When the CVI Retention Committee learned of this need, a competition was born. All the in-hospital CVI areas at CRMH were tasked with a competition to gather as many socks as possible over a three-week period. In addition, each department was to create a collection bin to showcase the socks collected. With much pride, CVI was collectively able to donate 3200 pair of socks to the clinic. Beyond #carilionproud of this CVI team! Many Thanks to everyone who participated.

The department with most socks collected was 6 South OPS at 745 pair!!

Winner of the best collection bin display was Vascular OR!

6S OPS and VOR are each being awarded their choice of a hot chocolate & apple cider bar or a brownie sundae ice cream bar for the staff.
