Congrats Vickie!

Throughout my life I have been treated by a ton of healthcare workers but there is nobody else like Vickie. I have a genetic condition that I will have my whole life and come to the infusion center every two weeks. Since I have been come it is difficult to find my vein for an IV I have had a lot of negative thought about the infusions but Vickie made it exciting to come back. She has always cared for my mother and I. She treats me with kindness and makes sure to reassure me. I with that everyone could have a nurse like Vickie. 

I just want to give a quick shout out to Melissa Addington BS CCLS!!! My son had surgery July 17 and she was the child life specialist for the OR that came to see us right after we got checked in. She was so kind, caring, patient, and she really helped my son Eli to not be so scared. She helped him pick a "flavor" for his anesthesia mask, and then gave him lots of stickers to decorate the mask with which was really helpful and it certainly helped dial down his anxiety about the surgery (because he was SUPER anxious about the IV part).

Thank you Officer McMillian! He helped us find a phone number to a patient's family member we were trying to contact. Thank you so much for your dedication to help our patients! 

Ann Neussendorfer shared an observation of one of our youth volunteers this week. 
 

Yesterday, I witnessed Scott Brown, CRNA from CNRV Anesthesiology bringing a young patient into the surgery area.  She was obviously tearful, yet was laughing beause Scott was making her ride on the stretcher so fun!   He was "driving" crazy and giving her a turbulent ride.    Thank you Scott for making this young patient feel a little less fearful on her way to surgery.  

Sofia Hernandez is a new patient care tech who works in Resource Pool and was a 1:1 sitter for an ICU patient. She demonstrated great care and compassion for the patient she was sitting with and provided excellent care to them. She was kind, patient, and always attentive to the patient and their needs. She did an amazing job working with the primary nurse to help care for the confused patient. She was quick to try and calm the patient down when they became restless by providing reassurance and promoting patient safety.

I would like to commend the Dietary Staff member; Carol Kreiger!  She went above and beyond commitment to provide compassion to our Patient on 10 West who was on comfort care foods.  The patient was only able to eat one specific food, due to medical reasons, and when we ran out of the food, she went out of her way to so kindly bring the patient this particular food!  This made such a difference to our patient, and he was able to rest after receiving the food item he could digest! It also gave our staff members who witnessed her kindness a lift to our day here on 10 West!

Recently I was working with a young teen reducing fears about dental care. We took a walk up to the dentistry office at CCTC and asked if we could just see a dental chair. Maegan Rutherford not only took time from her day to show us a chair but also gave us a complete tour of the dental area, explaining in detail everything that happens in each location. She patiently answered multiple questions about what to expect and how things are handled.

A patient arrived to her appointment and discovered she had a flat tire.  She became tearful after informing us she did not have any family to assist. Derrick Barr, a PA at Vinton Family Medicine, jumped in without hesitation to help her!  He was able to succesfully change her tire and showed true compassion by ensuring she made it home safely.  THANK YOU, Derrick, for helping to care for our patients whether they are in or outside of the clinic!
