I have been an RN with Carilion for 32 years and have never been to the ED as a patient at CRMH. On 10/8/25, I was on my way to work and had a severe allergic reaction to a medication. Upon arriving to my unit, I began having throat tightness, facial swelling and urticaria all over. My coworker took me to the ED. Upon arrival, the staff took me immediately in and started an IV, then immediately to triage. In minutes, Dr. Jonathan Nogueira was at my side and gave orders to take me to a room for IVF and Solumedrol. My RNs, Madison Lucas and Margaret Anderson were efficient and caring.

I want to give a shout out to Anna RN in the ER at CFMH. We had a patient that was in a lot of pain in x-ray on Monday. It was not even here patient and she went and pulled the meds and come down to x-ray and gave them to her. I really appreciate her doing that and going above and beyond to help us and the patient!

I came in with my 12 year old ADHD son yesterday after a very rough day. He is struggling with past trauma, probably needing med changes, and we are just going through a tough time. He’s very active and we have been in this small room for 19 hours now, waiting on a bed somewhere. Trish was so kind and consoling to this kid and to me as a mom. Unfortunately, mental illness is usually treated like a criminal offense not an illness. Trish didn’t treat us with anything but kindness and a warm smile. She went above and beyond!
 

The team at Giles Family Medicine recently collected and donated non-perishable food, personal hygiene products, and other basic need items to benefit schools in their community. They delivered donations to Giles High School, Narrows High School, and Peterstown Elementary/Middle School. It's a great way for the team to show their Carilion compassion and commitment to the community!

A Special thank you to Karen Little, Healthcare Administrative Associate (HAA) in Radiology, who helped a patient very challenged with directions and getting back to the parking garage and car—she took the time to hear and respond. The patient said of Karen, “She took me exactly where I needed to go, didn't just tell me, but took me out of the building, over to parking, even down to my very car. Who does that? This young lady bent over backwards to make sure I got out of the clinic, back to my car.

Britney Welliver, RN went WAY ABOVE and BEYOND to help an elderly patient with a serious wound who could not find the supplies she needed to get her on the road to recovery.  Britney found a pharmacy that stocked the items the patient needed and provided her with what she needed to get started.   

On Sat, 9/13 - Beautiful and touching Day of Remembrance program at the Mill Mountain pavilion led by Dr. Joe Whiting and a Hospice colleague. It was attended by approx. 100 people and included live music, poetry, and activities that included a butterfly release. Thanks also to Dr. Neal, Judy Burkle, LCSW, Dr. Erdal and Dr. Oliver who joined to support Joe and so many caregivers and loved ones. 

Themba Matewere, EVS employee, assisted a blind patient in finding the ED waiting room. We always tell patients to follow the arrows on the floor. He noticed that she could not do that and walked her through the ED to the waiting room. 

Kim who specializes in care of patients with neurological diagnoses received a very nice compliment from a patient that I wanted to share and give her recognition for. The patient's spouse wrote, "We have struggled HARD for a long time, We have had several speech therapists through the years. Not discounting their work at all but I have seen more progress in the small amount of time working with her than I have in YEARS! She is soooo patient and smart, good lord that woman is smart!
