CRMH was nominated by Guard and Reserve employees for providing a supportive workplace! The award was received by Sonya Charlow, Director Talent Acquisition, in Norfolk on the USS Wisconsin.
In the ED today after our director went home, we had an unfortunate situation with a pediatric psych patient. CFMH ER Director Tiffany Allen left her home, went to Walmart to provide much needed supplies to this patient and his family. She also replaced the ER DVD player so this pediatric patient could have entertainment for his possible entire weekend stay. Tiffany is always putting her staff and patients of the ER first. Thanks for all you do!

Debbie is forever bringing or making food to the staff she is working with. She exemplifies her Compassion, Commitment and Community with efforts to love on and care for her co-workers! Most recently she made everyone iced coffee!! Thanks Debbie, we love you!
Michael Lawrence, an employee at Carilion Saint Albans, gave the shoes off of his own feet to a patient who was being discharged and no shoes of his own to get home. It was raining and the patient only had socks to wear outside of the unit. Michael asked the patient if he would like to have his shoes, and the patient was very appreciative and tearful for Michael's generous offer. Michael shows great empathy and care when taking care of each and every patient he takes care of.
Veronica Stump, Director of Nursing at CGCH was recently honored with the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Veronica was nominated by her peers in the Emergency Department who saw her caring for a patient as she lay dying. That staff member was inspired by Veronica's caring and compassion and wrote this nomination:
Next door to our parking lot across the street there is an elderly lady that really has a very hard time getting around. We consider her "our neighbor". Trina had observed this woman trying to get her trash to the curb each week. So now when Trina comes in in the morning, she walks over and get this woman's big plastic trashcan on wheels, wheels it down her sidewalk, carries it down a couple of steps, and puts it on the sidewalk for the county to pick up.
I am a new employee to the department and I would like to take the time to Thank Yvette Andrews and Chandler for allowing me to address them about a issue I was having and working together to come up with a solution and accommodating my needs. AWESOME MANAGERS!!

The staff of The Carilion Children's Peds office in Botetourt displayed Compassion with this tree for Child Abuse Awareness Month.
Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine 4th year medical student, Andrew Gaddis, led a research team to compare outcomes of buprenorphine and methadone treatment with women receiving care for their opioid use disorder that revealed greater engagement with prenatal care for those receiving buprenorphine medication-assisted treatment. Employees of CSJH Sherri Denson, Ann Gentry, and Susan Irvine along with family members helped pack over 24,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger on Saturday April 13th at the Effinger Fire Station.
