Such an amazing day at the Climate and Health Conference on Saturday at CRMH! A full house and such wonderful engagement and collaboration. Thank you to our partners at Virginia Tech, Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, Virginia Clinicians for Climate Action, and Healthcare Without Harm for helping us coordinate and plan. A special thank you to our keynote speaker, Dr. Parham Jaberi, Chief Deputy Commissioner, Virginia Department of Health.

Working in Resource Pool you would think going to different units and meeting new people would be all but second nature to us. Contrary to popular belief, it still makes some of us pretty nervous! Especially when we're floated to units we don't typically go to. Last night I was floated to 6s ICU, a unit I have never been on as an aide. Upon arriving to the floor, I was greeted by staff, showed where to place my things, and told who to speak with for report.

I want to thank Tammy, LPN, and the entire night staff of 8S PCU. I am fresh off orientation with Resource Pool. The night that sticks with me the most was when I was placed on this unit. I had a patient deteriorating and I wasn't quite sure of what to do. I was really concerned for the patient and Tammy came to my aid. I voiced my concerns to her, at which point she helped pull my mind from straight panic mode and helped me escalate care for the patient. After the rush of everything happened, she made sure to come find me and make sure I was ok.

I would like to recognize Taylor Brogan, RN from 9 MTN ICU and Michael Nallen, RN from 10 MTN ICU for quickly responding to help an urgent need on 8 MTN ICU. Taylor and Michael willingly came to the unit to assist in insertion and maintenance of equipment that 8 MTN ICU does not currently maintain a competency for. Their quick action ensured the patient received timely, safe, and efficient care. We are so thankful for the teamwork and collaborative spirit exhibited across service lines. Thank you Taylor and Michael!

Thanks to Employee Health for welcoming the Hand Hygiene Committee to today's flu clinic and to members of the CRMH Hand Hygiene Committee for educating about the hand hygiene FROG campaign (FROG = Friction Rubs Out Germs) Those who visited the table at the flu clinic got frog stickers in honor of the event. 

I would just like to give a big thank-you to the Rheumatology Department for making my first week wonderful. I came in here feeling a bit nervous until I saw a big banner above my desk welcoming me to the department with everyone's signature. What a way to make a person at ease. Plus all the smiling faces and good mornings I received. I went home at the end of the day and told my family how awesome everyone at Carilion is. Thank you, Angela Chattin and all the staff for a wonderful first week! Here's to many more!

Katie Callahan, BSN, RN went above and beyond to explain/orient me to CSICU! Katie is a wealth of knowledge and extremely welcoming to questions and myself as a resource nurse. It was such a pleasure working with her and feel my skills have improved after spending time with her on the unit. Thank you Katie for you hospitality to the unit.

Tonight I was sitting with a rather difficult patient on 8MTN. Their night shift staff was so attentive and came quickly whenever I called for help. This patients nurse was quick to provide help and page the doctor when needed. I never waited more than a few seconds when I called for help with this patient. The entire staff was a huge help in making sure we kept the patient and staff safe all night. I can't thank them all enough for making what could have been a really rough night run fairly smooth. You guys are awesome and your team work and care for one another doesn't go unnoticed!

A huge thank you to Mary Conkling, RN from 8MICU for helping 6MICU by providing a Blakemore drain for a critical patient that was needed STAT. We truly appreciate your willingness to help our patient!

The City of Roanoke presented its highest honor to Dr. NL Bishop on Radford University Carilion Day. Congratulations, NL, for receiving the Key to the City at today’s ceremony at Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital. It’s deserved recognition of your longtime leadership of Jefferson College of Health Sciences and your instrumental role in merging the JCHS and Radford University health sciences programs. You paved the way as Radford University Carilion launches the latest addition to the Roanoke Innovation Corridor.
