CONGRATULATIONS to the Carilion Clinic participants in the 2019 Virginia’s Blue Ridge Triple Crown challenge.  This exciting series shows who the most dedicated walkers / joggers / runners are by rewarding those that finish the area's three biggest local marathon/half marathons within a year.  These medal winners completed the following:

A "Collaboration Extraordinaire" is saving lives and impacting the opioid epidemic in Virginia.  Constructed through a Carilion collaborative is Virginia's first ED Bridge to Treatment model program!  Emergency Medicine, Community Outreach (Peer Recovery Specialists Program), Family and Community Medicine (CommunityCare), Research and Development,  HART Analytics, Marketing and Communications, Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (4th year student and her mentor) AND our Psychiatry Department's Office-based Opioid Treatment (OBOT) Program all joined forces to forge a Bri

Had a chance to orient on 10MPCU today, and was in awe by how everyone worked together! Being a part of the resource pool, I get placed all over the hospital, and get a sense of the differnt varieties of teamwork. This unit certainly sets the bar! There was no grumbling or complaining when someone was behind and asked for help; their team-mates stepped up willingly to help the patients (at times even without being asked)! I'm glad to have been a part of this unit's care team today and look forward to working with them in the future.

Thank you, Security Officer Rhonda Wickline,for managing the loading and unloading of multiple school buses for last week's STEAM Day event at Radford University Carilion. Thanks to your help, we were able to maintain organization of that large task for over 500 students. THANK YOU, Rhonda! 

Jess Williams was leaving Giles Community Hospital to go to her LPN classes.  There is a Davita Dialysis Center very near the exit of the hospital.  As she was leaving the parking lot, she noticed in the Davita parking lot that a patient had fallen.  She pulled her car over and asked if she could help.  The dialysis patient had been upset and Jess was able to calm him and help him up and be able to be accessed. The nephrologist called me directly and shared how heroic Jess had responded.  Dr. Trivedi was very impressed with her commitment and compassion.

Sybil Calhoun assisted in saving a life at a local gym. She jumped right in to help someone in great need.  I know that the persons life she impacted at such great length is surely thankful that she was in the right place at the right time.  Sybil's heroic action and community involvement is recognized throughout the entire system.  Thank you Sybil for being you, and making such an impact. 

Our Pediatric Department had a little bit of fun by decorating pumpkins and displaying in the lobby at the MOB.  We had the children that came in for visits vote on which one they like the best.  We also gave out stickers and pencils to those who voted.

The FCM practice in Bridgewater combined creativity, Halloween fun, and compassion for our community by donating money to the our CommUNITY campaign.  The each made a donation and they have the cure for whatever ache or pain you may have.  GREAT IDEA for a theme.
