There was a patient in ICU who needed a femoral line removed, but the unit was out of suture removal kits. It turned out that everyone was out of these kits. I went unit to unit looking for someone who may still have some and not only did they have these kits, but the person also who helped me (and I apologize that I didn't get her name) did not hesitate to show me where they were and help me out. 

I really appreciate that and feel like she showed the spirit of Carilion and of caring for our clan and wanted to send out a thank you.  

I owe a Big  Thank You to Greg Conner and Debbie Reed for going above and beyond their job duties this morning . I had a tire leaking air and Greg and Debbie got the spare tire  put on and made sure it had enough air in it till I could get to a garage and have the regular tire patched up.

As an Infection Preventionist, we work closely with Project Managers during construction and renovation projects to ensure that infection control measures are in place to protect our patients and staff. 

Carilion Clinic Community Health and Outreach is proud to join with Melrose Plaza and its partners in bringing vital health, wellness, and community services to Northwest Roanoke. This collaboration—rooted in strong partnerships with local organizations, city leadership, and community voices—was shared with Roanoke City Council to mark the opening of Melrose Plaza. Together, we are creating a welcoming hub that expands access to care, strengthens neighborhood connections, and celebrates the power of collaboration to improve the health and well-being of our community.

A Shoutout to Carilion Dining & Nutrition Services for their efforts to bring the Hard Hat Café to life in the construction yard adjacent to the Carilion Taubman Cancer Center site. 

Nothing but high praise from our contractors for the affordability, quantity and quality of the food!  This was a great idea and kudos to the entire Dining & Nutrition Services team!  It is greatly appreciated!

Franklin County Public Library (FCPL) recently received a 2025 Achievement Award from the Virginia Association of Counties (VACo). The award recognized FCPL’s research study and initiatives to improve health, build strategic partnerships and deliver impactful programs in Franklin County. 

The ED and ICU unit at Franklin Memorial have been working really hard on improving patient throughput in our facility in an effort to improve patient care.  In July, we successfully reached our throughput goal time of an average of 30mins or less for the first time ever!  Recognizing this was achieved by the hard work of the front-line staff, we celebrated them with an ice cream bar!

Carilion joined forces with 94.9 Star Country for the expanded two-day Cure Kids Cancer Radiothon. Together, we raised over $205,000 to support pediatric hematology and oncology care at Carilion Children's through our partnership with Children's Miracle Network.

A heartfelt thank you to all of our employees and partners who volunteered their time and energy to make a difference for local families!

Brandi Thomas, practice manager and Keri McGrady, Nurse Practitioner, recently attended the Independence National Night Out to represent Carilion Clinic Galax Family and Internal Medicine. They took plenty of supplies to help the local children get ready for school! They also shared information about how the Galax team can help with routine physicals and many other services that Carilion offers. It was a fun way to interact with the community!

As the 2025 Carilion Clinic Internship Program comes to a close, we want to express our heartfelt thanks. Thank you interns and leaders for showing up not just with your time and talent, but with your whole selves. You ALL brought energy, empathy, and a willingness to grow, and in doing so, you became part of something bigger.

You didn’t just complete an internship. You lived out the values that define who we are at Carilion.
