Library Health Programs Help Franklin County Residents

Submitted by ayshoemaker on

Franklin County Public Library (FCPL) recently received a 2025 Achievement Award from the Virginia Association of Counties (VACo). The award recognized FCPL’s research study and initiatives to improve health, build strategic partnerships and deliver impactful programs in Franklin County.

We are proud to partner with FCPL to support these programs! Community Health Educator Alison Cronk has hosted many health and wellness programs at the library including Full Plate Living®, a nutrition class that incorporates gentle exercises and breathing techniques; Creative Expressions, a stress management series; and a Food Smarts, which teaches how to eat healthy on a budget. These classes are consistently filled to capacity and feedback from community members has been overwhelmingly positive. Writes one class participant, “In these classes I learned that we are on a health journey and with time, change will take place. I learned about becoming fit for life.”

Additionally, FCPL staff also now participate in our Franklin County Community Health Assessment and in Healthy Franklin County, a coalition that develops and carries out strategies based off the CHA findings.

Kudos to Alison and the Community Health and Outreach team for collaborating with FCPL to promote better health in Franklin County!
