Human Resources & CRMH Central Sterile are recycling champions!

Submitted by mcsotelo on

Human Resources at 1212 3rd Street and Central Sterile at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital both recently recycled 500 pounds of soft plastics! As part of the Trex Soft Plastics recycling program, they received a bench for their efforts. Both departments chose to place their benches on Carilion property, to allow for patients, employees, and visitors to enjoy.

Look out for Santa's elves!

Submitted by slflowers on

As Santa readies for his worldwide adventure Christmas Eve, he dispatched two of his elves to Roanoke Memorial Hospital this week. Volunteers Pat Steahly (left) and Sadie Hughes donned their serving aprons along with Elves' ears and Santa caps as they served up coffee, hot chocolate, other snacks and a huge side of holiday cheer! These longtime volunteers make rounds each Tuesday to the hospital's waiting rooms, providing snacks to hospital guests while family members are being treated.

Great Catch by Rockbridge's Chloe Cline!

Submitted by fmwaddell on

CRBH would like to recognize ED Clinical Associate Chloe Cline for her recent Great Catch.  While caring for a patient, Chloe was very attentive to detail and noticed that the patient felt extremely warm.  Chloe immediately notified the patient's nurse - vitals were taken, and the results suggested that the patient was quickly becoming septic.  The sepsis protocol was started immediately.  Thank you Chloe for your commitment to patient care and patient safety, and thank you for potentially saving this patient's life.  Well-done!

June with Carilion Police went above her job duty to help the breast care center staff find a way to get a non English speaking patient a way to get home after being dropped off for her appt.  Patient through the interpreter  stated she had no idea how to get back home, who to contact or way to communicate with anyone.  The number on the card she had was a non working number.  June stated her department was unable to take the patient home, but went out of her way to contact other departments to see if there was a way to get her transportation and vouchers to pay.
