CRBH would like to recognize ICU Nurse Bretty Justo for a recent great catch.  Bretty was preparing to administer an ordered dose of Morphine to a patient for bilateral lower extremity pain.  After scanning the medication, Bretty noticed that the patient had a severe allergy to morphine.  Bretty stopped the order and alerted the ordering provider.  Great catch Bretty!  This is how you do it!  Outstanding job of looking out for our patients and keeping their safety #1!  

The Birthplace at CNRV celebrated the retirement of our Nursery Charge RN Tia James.    Tia has been with Carilion over 12 years and has been a nurse for 41 years.    Congratulation to Tia on a much deserved retirement.    Enjoy your time with your husband and family!    We will miss her greatly.   

CVI celebrates Kristy Massey today! Kristy Massey is the unit director of cardiac surgery ICU. This month Kristy has been with Carilion for 25 years. We want to thank Kristy for her leadership and service to our community!

Arwen arrived early to her shift, which began at 11pm and was on the floor stocking the entirety of TO before she was even assigned to her care area. Every single cart was stocked with the exact amount of supplies needed/listed on the paper taped to the top. Having everything available made for a great night on TO. Thank you Arwen for going the extra mile to ensure we had supplies on TO. 

Please join the Guest Services Department in welcoming Nikolajs (Nik) Znamenskis as the new Director of Transportation/Parking Services. Nik comes to Carilion from Vermont where he spent most of his Information Technology career in state government and local businesses. Nik brings over 18 years of leadership and project management experience. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems and two master’s degrees, one in Management Information Systems and another in Business Administration.

Brendan Wilmer, Supervisor, Riverside Cafe, and Ruth Dillon, Cook, CRMH Retail Services, had a busy week last week! Despite handling all their routine duties, both were faced with receiving Counterfeit $20 bills during meal service. Because of their due diligence, the customer was found on camera at CRMH, and reported to Carilion  Police Department. Thank you both for paying attention, and for taking necessary steps to resolve this serious situation!

The CNRV Hospitalist Team had a provider scheduled for the dreaded Swing/Admitter shift starting at 2pm when his young child became ill with high fever and needed for him to take her emergently to Urgent care. WOW for Dr. Marek Gruca who was off, but when called at 2:30PM, he dropped everything and came in to help his team! It doesn't stop there...A second WOW to Dr. Peter DeReus who came in early for his night shift to releive Dr. Gruca after recognizing Dr. Gruca  had to return early the next morning for his own dayshift.

Lisa Adkins has dedicated 23 years of service to the Carilion Clinic organization.  She has worked as a Radiology Technologist for both inpatient and outpatient areas.  She is ending her tenure with Carilion at Velocity Care at Electric Road location, and we couldn't be happier for her.  Good luck Lisa and enjoy the time away!  You deserve it!  Thank you for all you've done not only for the service line but for the organization!

CNRV  Infection control and administrative leadership joined PCU leaders to recognize PCU's commitment to reducing hospital associated infections. PCU had no HAIs in June or July. We want to congratulate PCU for achieving this milestone! Here's to many more months of outstanding teamwork and success ahead as they strive for zero harm.
