As part of our celebration of Nursing Professional Development Week, we awarded our first ever DAISY Awards for Extraordinary Nurse Educators! The Recognition Council would like to thank everyone who participated in the nomination and voting process, as well as our two honorees for their ongoing dedication to our staff and community.

CGCH was recognized by the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association for being the second highest facility in the state with HCAHPS scores related to hospital cleanliness.  This achievement was also celebrated on a national level and was recognized by Becker's Healthcare for being one of the top 350 cleanest hospitals in the country.  Our EVS team is amazing, and we are so proud of the work they do.  

I would like to thank Susan B. in the gift shop at RMH for her help this week, I was an employee at RMH and have been gone for over 2 years. I had bought a ring for my daughter in the gift shop years ago while I was there. My daughter is now 13 and lost it Friday morning. She was terribly upset. I live over an hour away and called the gift shop to see if they even still carried these rings. Not only did they have them Susan took the time to send me pictures of the ones similar to the one I described and made sure they had the right size for her as well!

In just one year, Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital collected 34 pounds of soda can tabs to recycle for the Ronald McDonald House in Roanoke. Carilion collects aluminum can tab tops and donates them to the Ronald McDonald House, who works with a local recycler to turn them into money for families of hospitalized children. We currently have large collection houses in place at CRMH, CRCH, CNRV, CFMH, CRBH, ION, and the Cancer Center/Rehab. Houses are coming soon to CTCH and CGCH.

Neurosurgeon Dr. Mark Witcher recently shared the latest surgical and non-surgical treatments for essential tremor and Parkinson's Disease at the APDA Virginia Parkinson’s Conference in Salem. Over 120 professionals and community members joined to learn about treatment options, including Focused Ultrasound—our latest incisionless procedure offering immediate results. Well done, Dr.

A patient's family member today wanted to share that every person who they came in contact with on 8W at CRMH made the Patient feel welcomed, cared for, advocated for, supported, and noticed. Family member states that he has been to MANY hospitals and other facilities for different family members, but this was by far the best experience he has ever noticed. Family member stated that he feels like CRMH should be a TV show like Greys Anatomy because every person they interacted with during the patients stay was like a whole other character.

I want to recognize Zoe Albanese for her outstanding work ethic and dedication to her patients. She goes above and beyond assisting me to care for our patients. With her pleasant demeanor and caring attitude, it is always a pleasure working with her!

Happy rehab week to the acute care staff at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital! The acute care therapy team provides great care and service to our patients and their families. Today we were able to celebrate their service awards as well as awards for rehab excellence. Thank you for all that you do!

I am an ED nurse and was trying to call 6W to give report upstairs on a patient who just got a clean room right at shift change at 1900. Most times when ED nurses have to give report during shift change, we get significant push back from staff but Sheena was a complete sweetheart. She let me know that the oncoming nurse was getting report from another staff member and offered to receive report for her, despite it being the end of her shift. She was extremely cheerful and positive during handoff and made report such a positive experience.
