For hospitals around the world, data and databases are key to improving processes, patient outcomes, and gaining a better understanding of the needs and experiences of one’s community. Yesterday, on May 5th, the Infection Prevention and Control Department celebrated Worldwide Hand Hygiene Day! At Roanoke Memorial and our Franklin Hospital, FROG friends Paddy and Franklin joined the fun! There were also several celebrations across the system!

At RMH, Paddy and their friends from the IPC department walked through several of the units, handed out candy, sanitizer, and lotion, and also asked staff some hand hygiene-related questions for additional prizes!:)

Katherine Baker rocks at her job. She had a patient she was discharging and was waiting for their ride and instead of discharging to the waiting room, she let the patient rest in his hall bed. Before sending to the ride, she checked his vitals one more time and saw he had a fever and BP was elevated. Ride was cancelled. Patient ended up being a sepsis alert. Great catch and great job Kate!!!
