Our Quality & Patient Safety team want to recognize Christy Nichol’s exceptional advocacy for a patient in the Emergency Department. During an MRI Brain exam, she identified a pathology that had not been noted in the radiologist’s initial report. Demonstrating initiative and clinical vigilance, Christy promptly alerted the ED provider, prompting a second review. Her keen observation and commitment to patient care led to an addendum that accurately reflected the findings. Thank you, Christy, for your dedication and sharp eyes!

Congratulations to the 11S Pediatric Intensive Care Unit!  They have achieved 6 years without a central line associated blood stream infection (CLABSI)!  Way to go PICU!!

Haley Raville spent extra time contacting a patient who had been discharged who had left his AVS in the room. The patient had recently been diagnosed with a serious health issue, Hailey took the time to call him multiple times until she finally made contact to assure that the patient was 100% informed of his next actions. She could have easily disposed of the paperwork assuming the patient and wife knew what to do, but instead she stayed extra and put in the additional efforts to call until she could assure herself that the patient was completely taken care of.

This recognition is awarded to buildings that outperform 75 percent of similar buildings nationwide. This is the 3rd time that CRBH has earned this award, representing their sustained commitment to environmental protection and energy performance.

Samantha Lineberry, our ED Nurse, demonstrated exceptional clinical judgment by identifying a patient with a prolonged QT interval and recognizing that the prescribed antiemetics could exacerbate the condition. She promptly notified the physician, leading to the discontinuation of the medication. Thank you, Samantha, for your vigilance and for helping prevent a potential adverse event!

On October 26, from 1-3 PM, multiple departments at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center participated in Trauma Service's Child Safety Day. The following departments had a Trunk or Treat set up to distribute injury prevention information and treats to almost 500 community members:

Infection Control, Emergency Department, Outpatient/Cardiac Rehab, Outpatient Orthopedics, Imaging Services, Mental Health, Cardiology, PCU, Carilion Clinic Safe Kids and Lifeguard 11. 

Let's all take a moment to commend the PICU team on being 6 years CLABSI free!!   Such a big accomplishment from an amazing team!!
