Congratulations to Rebecca Duff, M.S., Director of the Jefferson College Physical Therapist Assistant Program, for being named to the State Board of Physical Therapy by Virginia Governor Ralph Northam.


The announcement was made by the Governor's Office on August 24 as part of his most recent appointments to his administration.

It all started as a normal busy Monday for Patient Access Representative Courtney French. As Courtney was completing a follow up she identified a patient that had a deteriorating condition and immediately went to the patient's nurse. Courtney's quick thinking led to a successful patient intervention. Her commitment to our values at Carilion and Patient Access are much appreciated.

In reading the October 2018 issue of EMNews, I thought the service description was just what Carilion tries to do. 
Lo and behold, the Letter to the Editor responding to transfer snafus from smaller hospitals was written by Dr. Paul Haskins, our very own guy here at Carilion. 
Kudos.

This morning there was a water main break downtown which caused our administrative building to lose access to water. Therefore, employee's needing to work onsite had to be relocated expeditiously. The message was sent out for the need to make accommodations for these team members at Parkview. Kathy sprung right into action to find space for these team members while reaching out to TSG support to ensure their printing wouldn't be an issue. She also greeted the employees at the door showing them to their deployed work station for the day.

Last week I had a patient that required an extremely unusual medication. The timing was critical. The patient's insurance required them to use a specific pharmacy. That pharmacy did not have it and could not get it. I called CNRVMC and, although they didn't stock it, they checked the inpatient area of the pharmacy. They found it. Matt and Anna didn't stop there. They found a way that the patient could afford the expensive medication since they were paying cash. In addition, it was late in the afternoon and the patient could not arrive before they closed.

I would like to take a minute to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of Lynne High, RN Velocity Care Nurse Navigator. Lynne spends every day following up with our patients labs, ensuring they have received proper treatment and medications. recently she attempted to reach a patient that needed to have a medication for a positive test result and discovered that the patient was out of the country and would not be back for some time. Knowing the patient needed to have her results and start her medication as soon as possible, she made multiple calls and was able to track down the patient.
