I just wanted to give a huge employee WOW to officer Paul King at CNRV for going above and beyond today helping our new CNRV Birthplace parents with car seat installations. He worked with one family for an hour in the room adjusting the car seat and educating the parents and grandmother. He also went with them to the car and worked for an additional 30 minutes in the parking lot to adjust the seat to ensure it was a a good fit for the infant. He also helped another family to install their seat as well this afternoon.

I would like to recognize CSJH police officers Jerry Dove and Jay Engstrom for their willingness to help out one of our patients in need.  This patient had been in our facility for the past few days and needed her cell phone, charger, and personal belongings from her home.  Her husband is unable to drive and there is no other family in the local area.  Officers Dove and Engstrom volunteered to go to the patient's home to pick up her belongings from her husband and then bring them to her hospital room.  These officers are a wonderful representation of Carilion's values!&n

A Colossal cascade of STAT cleaning occured at the end of the shift on a Monday morning.  I had to ask B.Harvey to clean a second dirty bed for the same room in the ICU so we could fit the traction on.  He gladly took on this extra responsibility even though he would have to stay over his shift to get it done. Neurosurgery was happy to know that we all worked together to get things ready for this unfortunate patient.

I just want to share my appreciation for the clinical administrators Todd Distefano and Kenn Simmons for finding my patient's belongings that were lost after her surgery.  Thank you both so much for going above and beyond to assist my patient and for having a great attitude!

I would like to recognize Erin Kelley, RN on the medical surgical unit at Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington, VA.  Last Saturday, Erin was working the 7am to 7pm shift on our unit when another coworker called out for the 7pm shift due to a car accident that a family member was involved in.  Due to census being a low after a few discharges, Erin agreed to leave work at 9:30am, go home and sleep, then return by 6:45 pm to cover the night shift with me, Karen Jones.  I feel that this truly shows a commitment to teamwork and dependability in her character.

Cindy had a great catch. She noticed that the EXP date on the FLU HD that is pre- populated in EPIC in incorrect.   I bet a lot of people would have missed this.  Great job!

Congratulation's to Maggie Light and Jamie Sizemore on being elected as Chair and Co-chair of the Ancillary Council!

I work on the admission discharge team and while doing an admission and going over pre admit medications the patient stated to me that this was his dad's chart and not his I was reviewing. He was a Jr. and this seemed perfectly reasonable to me since he claimed out of several meds he only took one. I had no idea what to do and I was very concerned that his name was on the wrong chart. My back up that day was Cindy Blackburn, when I related what was going on she came almost immediately and started digging through the chart and calling to get the information fixed and clarified.

This shout out is for Emily in Microbiology on the evening of 9/15/19. We have a patient who has been on the floor for a few weeks and has labs that have never resulted - Emily dug through her own system, as well as Epic and found the labs had been sent out and resulted 10 days ago, and got the results sent to the unit!! Thank you for being so proactive and potentially helping a patient out!

The Emergency Department would like to thank Jan Winand, PACU CA, for her help today! The ED was out of stretchers and she helped bring 10 stretchers down the elevators to the ED. We appreciate you!
