Since this is Customer Service Week, I want to take this opportunity to share with you what an amazing team of individuals I have the privilege of working with every day in Billing Customer Service.  Our department is unique in the sense we not only have the privilege of helping our patients navigate the self-pay billing process and help them find successful account resolution, but we also interact with many different Carilion departments and outside contacts, such as Insurance companies, etc.  

Congratulations to our Wellness instructors, Elizabeth Brown (Botetourt), Brittany Cox (Westlake), Kayla Mabe (Botetourt), Robin Mabe (Botetourt), and Kim Wilbourne (Westlake/Roanoke) on their successful completion of Les Mills GRIT training! These instructors are committed to improving the health of the communities we serve by continually challenging themselves with new coaching techniques! We are so proud of all of their hard work! 

Jennifer Bath MSN, RN, AGCNS-BC, CEN,  TCRN, Clinical Nurse Specialist for Trauma Services was selected as one of 8 participants and the only nurse in the 2019-2020 Health Professions Education Research Scholars (HERS) program. High-quality education research is dependent upon those that deliver the education to also have the capacity to design and execute rigorous research programs. To meet this need, the TEACH academy has developed an interdisciplinary health professions education research curriculum.

A huge thank you to Henry from EVS for taking such great care of 8 MICU! Not only does he come on the unit with a smile and sweet personality, but puts in great work to keep our unit looking spectacular too. The ice machine has never looked better thanks to him! Thank you again for all of your hard work Henry!!

If its volunteering to bring food for the local elementary school backpack program, pulling extra shifts on the weekend or nights to strip and wax the floors or vacuuming flies from the lights, our Environmental Services staff at Tazewell are living their Carilion Clinic Values of Commitment, CommUNITY and Compassion. Our Patient Experience Team has worked tirelessly to improve our survey results.

As a new employee it can be difficult starting a new job. I have to commend the staff at St. Albans. They have made my transition very smooth. The teamwork here is amazing. Everyone is willing to step in and answer questions and help. You can truly tell that the staff here cares about their patients, work, and fellow co-workers. I am truly thankful to work for such an amazing company. 

Regan Dorey, an RN on the Meg Surg floor always goes above and beyond for her patients and her co-workers. She has been so very helpful with making sure are patient's get the best care. She goes out of her way to help with vitals, meals and bathing. She is such a blessing to work with.

This dedicated group of nurses volunteered to spend Saturday morning participating in the Sepsis Alliance's 'walk a mile for sepsis' event, walking their mile on the Greenway by Smith Park. While there, they handed out bags of sepsis information, because they recognize that most sepsis starts in the community and that many people have never heard of sepsis and do not know the signs.

Two Carilion nurses were elected to the Board of Directors for the Virginia Nurses Association (VNA). They were sworn into their offices at the VNA Membership Assembly on September 29,2019 in Short Pump, Virginia.

Jennifer Bath MSN, RN, AGCNS-BC, CEN, TCRN was elected to the office of Vice President. In this role, Jen will serve as an elected VNA representative at the American Nurses Association Membership Assembly.

Liz Hypes, MedKey Account Analyst discovered an issue whereas accounts were not transferring from EPIC to MedKey once they had been purchased.

Upon further investigation with Angie Ramsay at TSG, it was discovered that a particular department was sat up as "login", which stopped the transfer.

These ladies worked together throughout the process, the department was un-hidden and the accounts transferred to MedKey.

I believe this speaks to more than one of our organizational values...curiosity and commitment both, were displayed by these two great ladies!
