Jonathan Bjorson, RN, Jaclyn Pividal, RN, Joel Pepper, RN and Bryan Byrd, NRP were nominated for the Western Virginia Emergency Medical Services (WVEMS) Regional Award for outstanding prehospital educator(s). Jonathan, Jaclyn, Joel and Bryan brought prehospital education for over 300 EMS clinicians of all levels in 2025, filling a much-needed gap in pediatric education in the prehospital setting in our region. Although the team was not selected for the Regional Award- they are still winners!

After more than 40 years of dedicated service to Carilion Clinic, Ed Watkins, Chief of Police, announced his plans to retire effective Nov. 1.
While preparing medications for a patient, Cindy noticed that several different medications had been placed in the same cubby. Recognizing the potential risk, she immediately removed them and returned them to the pharmacy so the correct medication could be restocked.
Her quick thinking and attention to detail helped ensure patient safety — thank you, Cindy, for your dedication to doing things the right way!
Congratulations to Hannah Faulk, MT-BC on passing her American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) board exam! Hannah is the second music therapy intern to complete an internship with Carilion Clinic Hospice’s AMTA internship program AND pass her boards the first time! The current first-time pass rate is 61%, so this is a tremendous accomplishment.
