Elizabeth Rutrough goes above and beyond to show compassion and dedication to her team. I had run late with my provider and told her I was not going to get much of a lunch because I still needed to clean patient rooms. Without a second guess she offered to come back with me and clean my patient rooms so I could get lunch. Elizabeth is a true team player and a great manager to work with.

I had the privilege of attending the 2019 March of Dimes - Virginia Nurse of the Year Event in Richmond on Friday, November 22nd. This was an incredible event! Out of 120 nurses nominated across the state of Virginia, 8 nurses were from Carilion. Of the 8, 3 were awarded 1st place out of 22 categories and 1 runner up.

Congratulations to Savannah Oakes and our amazing Imaging team at CFMH for successfully completing the ACR accreditation for our CT unit. This was a particularly difficult accreditation year, and Savannah did a wonderful job spearheading this project!
CGCH Medical Imaging Manager Jennifer Collins discovered that imaging reports were not being sent out to ordering physicians through an order entry error and worked diligently to get the reports sent back to the appropriate provider. Thank you, Jennifer for your commitment to our patients and providers!
I wanted to recognize our hardworking, dedicated and amazing staff at Riverside 3 who go above and beyond for our Patients every single day! Without front line staff we would not have a successful operation and I am beyond proud to be able to guide and lead such an Awesome group.

Mercedes Quinones (Merci), an RN in the NRV OB/GYN office, truly went above and beyond tonight. Merci is also a certified medical interpreter, and has been present for many of this patient's prenatal visits. She came to the Birthplace to assist with the admission process during office hours which was very helpful. Later in the evening, when the patient was having a difficult time focusing on the Language Line interpreter, Merci gladly called the patient to provide translation over the phone.
My children have seen providers, including Laura Biscotte, NP at the Carilion Daleville Peds office since birth! We have always been happy with all of their care and our experiences. In February of last year, Laura detected a new murmur on my then 11 year old son - we were referred to cardiology and with evaluation and testing, it was thought to be benign. Nearly one year later, we were seeing Laura for a routine visit when she heard the murmur again and this time felt is was louder and a little different! Sharon Heffner, OR Circulating RN for CSJH was double checking medications prior to a cataract surgery. She noticed that a medication was opened to be given to a patient that had caused the patient to have an anaphylactic reaction in the past. Sharon promptly notified the OR team of the patient's allergy and prevented the medication from being given. Congratulations to Sharon for promoting patient safety! We are so proud of you!
