The new lighting inside the Riverwalk Parking Garage is fantastic! Thank you for the investment into the new lighting fixtures at the Riverwalk Parking Garage! I really appreciate being able to see better inside that garage. These new lights will increase the safety of all those who use this garage.

For the past couple of months our leadership team here at CFMH has been extremely busy on the front lines of the COVID Vaccine roll out. Without hesitation, this team has pulled together to vaccinate our own staff, staff from outside practices, EMS/Fire personnel and many, many members of our community who fall within the categories to receive the COVID vaccine. There have been numerous “vaccine clinics” set up and vaccines given.
We needed a car seat checked and initially we were looking for a firehouse sponsoring safety-checks but found none due to COVID. But the Good News is that we have our own source right here at Carilion! We were fortunate to learn of the Car Seat Safety-Check service through the Community Health & Outreach department. Jill Lucas Drakeford is the Carilion Children's Safe Kids Southwest VA Coordinator and the Child Passenger Safety Technician/Instructor.

Ashley Lakes, RN along with her orientee Brianna Bailey, RN noticed an immediate change with a patient's neurolgoical status with their thorough assessment skills. This observation lead to a stroke alert being called which allowed for proper and timely intervention to be performed. I am so proud of these amazing ICU RNs!

A successful academic medical center (AMC) has many roles which create its success. Residents and fellows serve as a very important part of the foundation to the care provided to patients at an AMC. Today, on “National Thank a Resident Day” we are very happy to pause and recognize them for the work they do. So, if you see a resident or fellow today, I hope that you will take a moment to say “Thank You” for all they do in contributing to the success of CMC.
COVID put a hold on getting certifications! Now that testing sites are back open, 7SICU had three RNs get their CCRN, Certifications through AACN! Lindsay Young, BSN, RN IV, CCRN, Gem Indino MSN, RN IV, and Katie Gonzalez, BSN, RN III! Congratulations to their hard work!
CRMH became the first facility in the state to successfully procure the heart of a Donation After Circulatory Death (DCD) Organ Donor that lead to a successful transplantation.
A small ceremony was held on 2/19/21 to recognize the leadership and staff of 9SICU and Respiratory Therapy for their care of a recent organ donation patient that resulted in this monumental achievement. Certificates and an anatomical heart lapel pin were given in appreciation.
