Anchored Down and Safe
We needed a car seat checked and initially we were looking for a firehouse sponsoring safety-checks but found none due to COVID. But the Good News is that we have our own source right here at Carilion! We were fortunate to learn of the Car Seat Safety-Check service through the Community Health & Outreach department. Jill Lucas Drakeford is the Carilion Children's Safe Kids Southwest VA Coordinator and the Child Passenger Safety Technician/Instructor. My grandson just turned 10 months and we transitioned from the carrier-type car seat to the full-sized. We followed the manual for our installation, but the seat didn't feel as secure as it should and luckily we found Jill. She is awesome! One look and she knew what was needed. Jill took a great deal of time sharing the various aspects of the installation so we became knowledgeable ourselves with safety tips all around - even that my seat shouldn't be less than 10 inches from the steering wheel to allow for air bag deployment. Who knew??
Everyone with a child using a car seat who is unsure of its anchor and security, or if you know of anyone, please contact Jill's department for the peace of mind knowing their car seat is set to do its job, protecting their child.
