Carilion Franklin Hospice celebrated Welcome Home Vietnam War Veterans Day on Monday, March 29. A wreath and display were displayed in the lobby of the CFMH medical office building for the week, along with a proclamation issued by Gov. Ralph Northam designating March 29, 2021, as Vietnam War Veterans Day. This day is part of a national effort to recognize the men and women who were denied a proper welcome upon return home more than 40 years ago.

The CAPS team is excited to announce that the staff from Virtual Care Operations submitted the most non-anonymous Near Misses/Unsafe Conditions (Great Catch!) through SafeWatch in the month of March, for a total of 16 Great Catches! Your commitment to patient safety is shining through and we want to take a moment to celebrate you! Your team is a valuable asset here at Carilion Clinic. SafeWatch reports have led to many process improvements and created a safer environment for our patient and care teams.

We are very proud of our Doctors here at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital and throughout our entire Carilion Clinic. We are humbled to be working alongside such a committed and dedicated group of professionals. Thank you for being our heroes every single day.

Glenn has worked for Carilion for approximately 21 years as a Physical Therapist.  He began his Carilion career at Roanoke Community Hospital in the acute/inpatient department. He later transitioned to the outpatient rehab building that was located in downtown Roanoke. Glenn has been at the outpatient clinic located inside Carilion Wellness Botetourt for the last 15 years. He has been an intricate team member of the rehabilitation department providing high quality care to numerous individuals over those 21 years.

A few weeks ago I was working at the Postal Drive testing site (weekend job) - this is a different access in EPIC then what my  full time job requires - the manager there had put in requests for me to have certain access and I had made several calls to the help desk - most of my access was given with no issues - but I was missing one little part that I needed to do my job - Stephanie H. Johnson was on call (it was weekend hours) and not only did she get my access set up fast she helped another employee get her access with out trying to explain it to another help desk employee.

When working with Resource Pool we often get pulled to the same locations, but every once in a while we have the opportunity to help in a department that seems foreign to us because we rarely go.  While working on 8S radius for the first time in months the entire staff was just amazing and welcoming, they helped to make me feel supported.

It is an honor for me to let all of the Carilion family know that Tammy Gibson, Imaging Rad Tech, is retiring tomorrow after 38 years of service! Tammy began her career in Imaging at Community Hospital in 1982. She has seen Imaging go through many changes, staying strong through it all. I wish her well as she enters retirement.........a new phase to have more time to spend with family and do what she would like to do, not worrying about needing to save some energy to make it through a day at ION.
