There are many unsung heroes in health care, people who play a crucial role, but who do not receive the recognition that they deserve. I have the privilege of working with these two (Teresa, and Josh) absolutely incredible respiratory therapists in the emergency department, it takes a team effort to care for patients that come through those doors, and these two are amazing at their job. It is an absolute pleasure working with them, and thank you to all the great emergency department nursing staff such as Trevor and Payton who are absolutely amazing at what they do, without great people like that nothing would be possible. This week, we were notified that there was a backorder on a supply that is required for our GYN patients. Our supply availability within the system was limited and the backorder release date is about 6 weeks out. The team knew that the current supply would only last for a short period of time.. After almost a year of hard work, I am pleased to announce that Thanh Nguyen CMA became a United States Citizen on January 20, 2022.
Thanh is a valued member of the Internal Medicine team at Riverside. She worked nearly every Covid -19 vaccine clinic at the Berglund Center, and also puts in overtime to help our hospital staff with Helping Hands.
We are forever thankful to Don McMullen for guiding Thanh through the citizenship process. It is thanks to this WOW Wall that we knew who to contact for assistance when Thanh made her dreams known.
The Administrative team at Rocky Mount Family practice went above and beyond to obtain another copy of patient's medical records from out of state.
Tragedy struck in Blacksburg over the weekend with a shooting that resulted in death and multiple gunshot wounds. Two critical patients were transported to CNRV. Please see a copy of the email sent to Marsha Leighton, our ED Director, from the chief of the Riner volunteer rescue squad. I hear frequently from the community what a blessing our ED is, and this is one more example. What a great team.

I've recently been helping out in Mini-D at RMH through the Helping Hands program. During my time there, I have learned so much about this vital department that keeps our hospital running. While their work is in the background, what they do is so important to keeping both patients and staff safe. Kudos to the Mini-D department for all of your hard work. Last weekend when we had the snow storm I was in my department, Central Sterile Supply , wondering who all would be able to make it in. After a few hours some of the staff made it in for their shift! One in particular had to walk from her house to the hospital! She walked 45 mins from her house to the hospital in the cold and snow just to come to work!

Winter weather often creates a unique set of challenges for our staff working in home care. Navigating the roads and entering snow covered driveways to care for patients can be tricky, to say the least. On Wednesday, January 19th, one of our CNRV Home Health nurses was unable to reach a patient to perform his wound care. The patient’s road had been cleared, but the plow essentially created a barricade of snow across the patient’s long driveway not allowing her to enter.
