CNRV Emergency Department Shines in a crisis
Tragedy struck in Blacksburg over the weekend with a shooting that resulted in death and multiple gunshot wounds. Two critical patients were transported to CNRV. Please see a copy of the email sent to Marsha Leighton, our ED Director, from the chief of the Riner volunteer rescue squad. I hear frequently from the community what a blessing our ED is, and this is one more example. What a great team.
Marsha,
As one of the responding and treating agencies to the active shooter in Blacksburg last night, I wanted to reach out and praise the ED in their role for patient survival for a situation we never want to face.
While responding we knew of multiple patients down, and notifications were made early to area hospitals to make the process quicker and increase survival. Your team went above and beyond to handle two critical GSW patients simultaneously, and were prepared for an influx of a second wave from the scene. Multiple agencies that typically do not transport to NRVMC had to make the unfortunate trip from Blacksburg due to patient volume at the scene, and were overly impressed with the readiness of the ER when patient transfer took place.
Your folks did an amazing job from the EMS standpoint and we are thankful for the amazing and thorough work they did last night!
Sincerely,
-Chief
